dmr was likely known by those that mattered to him in his field - you don't get a National Medal of Technology by accident.

There are thousands of people that die each and every day that I don't know about so it's hardly a metric to be concerned about.

Pretty sure when I pop not many people are going to know about it.

There should be an institution for finding ignored geniuses, and funding and helping some who already work. They are mostly too good in what they do, that they can not manage anything else in their lives.
Gates, Jobs and Hawking are rare exceptions.
