SEO Question/Help

I am a little new to this topic. Please forgive me if I sound dumb in this field. How can I tell if my site is SEO optimized? If it isn't how can you make it SEO friendly? Any more advice with Google ranking also would be appreciated. I do understand that you should build as many back links as possible but that is all I really know.

Cheers ;)

First, please be note I am not SEO expert, I am just a newbie.

Base on my experience (this is my newbie strategy) to get good position in search engine, here my steps :

1. Try to find a name as same as possible with the keyword that I want to
2. Using Simple CMS (prefer Wordpress)
3. Doing some on page seo techniques

For example, I just bought a domain which same with the keyword that I want to optimize (search competition is about 7,300,000 in google), within a week I got # 6 in first google page with the keyword target.

Unfortunately, this in not high searching keyword :red:-, but I feel satisfied with my SEO learning :gl:

This is just a newbie sharing, hopefully SEO expert will give advice after this :notme:

Thanks for the link. It seems to be more directed to pleasing visitors. Either way, that was informative. Also, I was wondering about the internal linking. Should I be using the direct website link for internal links or the shortened version? Let me explain what I mean.

Internal Link Example:

http://www.test.com/about
or
about.html

I used the .html for internal linking. Is that proper and seo friedly? My Headers look good with the proper variance of the above reference. As far as keywords, I copied the keywords of a top ranking similar site. Is that good?

Maybe this can help you..Do some link building activities like

Link Directory submission
Social Bookmarking
Article Submission
Blog Directory Submission
Add posting
Forum Posting (like this one)
Blog Commenting

hope this will help you..

Internal Link Example:

http://www.test.com/about
or
about.html

It doesn't matter to search engines.

The second will shave a few fractions of a second off your page load times. The first will make it more difficult for other sites to scrape your content.

Backlinks: Quality counts, not just quantity.

My advice: Read and ask these questions on SEO forums and blogs, not in a domaining forum :).

Don't feel dumb! On-site optimization is the foundation for SEO, even though off-page SEO tends to get most of the attention :)

If your site is optimized for SEO, it means that you're targeting specific keywords. Generally, you should aim for 2-3 keywords for each page. And, you can't just pick random keywords; you have to do solid research to see what keywords have good numbers, and what you feel you can rank on.

I would like to share some useful tips for you.

1. Always or at least monthly change your website keywords positioning
2. Put h1-h4 tags on your website
3. Bold or underline your keywords and again change things on a regularly basis
4. For script users make your URLS search engine friendly
5. Try and write articles directly on your site and add a social bookmarking script for people to bookmark
