Hi everyone

I'm building a site and just have a general query about subfolders with regards to SEO. What I wondering is if the number of folders makes a difference on your site's score for a particular page and also is the furtherest child folders (right most) are scored higher than the folders at the top of the web root.

IE, consider this scenario for a hotels site:

[hotelsite].com/canada/ontario/toronto/best-western

-or-

[hotelsite].com/toronto/best-western

If I was trying to optimise the above page for a Best Western hotel in Toronto, which of the folder structures would be a better route to take?

Many thanks,
Anthony

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
AfternicAfternic
[hotelsite].com/toronto/best-western this will run better..
bcoz the url length will be shortern..

Generally the homepage of the sites has the higest rank and when you move down in the category the sites loses pagerank. If you check the sites you will notice this. So the shorter url is better. and i reccmend you not to go further than 2 levels (categry and section).

Thanks for that casperl, and thanks for the reply indianseo. My biggest problem here is that the levels could go up to four or five subdirs deep:

[site]/canada/ontario
[site]/canada/ontario/toronto
[site]/canada/ontario/toronto/york-region
[site]/canada/ontario/toronto/york-region/markham

Do you think it would be better to do something like this instead?

[site]/canada/ontario
[site]/ontario/toronto
[site]/toronto/york-region
[site]/york-region/markham

I've got my Modrewrite going here, so as long as I have a parent and child area in the URL then I should be okay..

Many thanks,
A.
