Semi-Dedicated Server

Hey Guys I have a question.

I recently moved to a new host, after a month he says that my site is using excessive server and that I have to be moved to a semi-dedicated server.

AFter 3 days he says he moved to me a semi dedicated server, and i am also have to pay him more for it.

Now, I checked my site on Whois.sc and it says that there are 200 other sites sharing the server with me. Now, I am confused. I don't know if he is giving me a semi dedicated server or he is just stealing my money.

I would appreciate your help.

I would say he is taking your money! A semi dedicated server (Semi = half) so therefore that should mean there are two sites hosted on that server, not 200!

semi-dedicated means that he probably has 4 or 5 resellers on that rig. Some of those people on that server with you could be a small web hosting company. Or a business with many websites. Chances are if your site is using "excessive" server it is probably cpu or memory usage that is doing it. What type of scripts are you running? perl?

what my guesses are
1) he is stealing ur money
2) he moved to a new host on which u and other one is may be a reselller,
so that person may giving accounts,
but u should not agree for this conditions.b-coz when he said he is moving to semi-dedicated there should not be resellers and many sites,
so make a good contract with him, otherwise its better to go to a best server.

Ask him to locate the scripts that are using excessive CPU and/or memory.

Vissu. That is not how hosters classify a semi-dedicated server. A company can have dedicated, semi-dedicated, shared, and reseller servers. Fine line between what some of these are but in the case with most hosting companies a semi-dedicated server will have 4 or 5 customers residing on the machine. Each with large amounts of capacity (20GB disk, etc) and that semi-dedicated customer can use their resources as they desire. Normally the "load" on the server will be less on a semi-dedicated machine than what it would be on a reseller server.
