Hey, I was thinking about making a website template to sell, but I've never done it before and I don't know the standards. Like how big it should be (Width and Height) or if all the links are supposed to work if I should stay away from I FRAMES. If someone could please tell me some of this stuff, it would really help me a lot.

ok, do you have Photoshop? If so, start there, and make some templates using tutorials all over the www.

The normal size is 800 x 600

stay away from iframes, just browse the web and look at peoples sources, thats how i learned a longggg time ago

Hey, to begin with, I wouldn't care much about the size as long as it's suitable for the lowest 800x600 resolutions. It's not necessary for all the links to work (or for that case, any to work), but I would recommend having a homepage and another page that would display all the content in (for instance, "About Us"). Loading times should be kept to a minimum, and avoid pointless use of Flash. I recommend you never use Iframes since they may cause problems with Netscape and Opera users. Let us know if you have anymore questions.

are there really still alot of people using 800x600? i noticed quite a while ago that thats the standard but i cant remember the last time i saw a screen set to 800x600. i was kind of wondering about that for a while.

you'll find that for 800x600 screen users, the exact width is 780 unless you want that bottom scrollbar, but then again nothing a bit of CSS can't resolve.

Ok, thanks for all the advice and tips. And since I shpuldent use IFRAMES, should I just leave areas in tables for the buyer to add text? I know that sounds kinda dumb to ask, but I'm new at this...

ya, just make some tables, and include a txt file with instructions on how to edit, and you only need to make this once, then you can use it again. 800 x 600 is stil the standard because it works on screens that ARE actually 8 x 6, but also on 1024 x 768.

Sure, or you could add "dummy text." It doesn't really matter, though.

ya, most templates use lorem ipsum, commonly known as fake latin, but it is a real dialect. a generator can be found here --> http://www.lipsum.com/

yeah, but i would suggest you not look around TM for now. You should really just learn HTML, adobe photoshop, and a text editor like dreamweaver or notepad.

the link i meant to give you was www.w3schools.com they have all the turoails on coding you will need, and they are step by step, which will help you out alot
