Hi guys,

Ive recently bought a domain of a Scottish football club to develop into a news/forum.
Is there a way to sell email addresses on my domain name?

e.g. say my domain was manchesterunited.com, is it possible to sell email addresses such as
[email protected] to visitors?

I haven't done much research into this, but I'd imagine it could be possible? is there a script out there that could do this for me?

Thanks

I've actually researched it in the past and it's not that easy. It requires some pretty good knowledge of PHP (or some other server-side language), as well as the OS that the webmail is running on, and some other variables. It would be very difficult to find a script that would do all that, and even if you did find one, it likely wouldn't work for you unless your setup was the same as that of the script's developer.

It's not incredibly complicated... I can think of numerous ways to do this.

If you wanted to automate everything... without really having to do much work.... you could get a reseller hosting account with cPanel and then use WHMCS to create an email-only account product... it'll do all the work for you.

You could also use google apps... they have API tie-ins... but you'd have to do the development yourself.

If I were you I would just find a hosting provider that gives you unlimited email accounts and cPanel (or any other control panel.. ie plesk) access, and then just use a simple web form that emails you the orders... then go in and create the email account manually when you get an order. It only takes a few seconds to do it manually, then you can email your clients their login and pass.

If you find yourself getting a ton of orders eventually, cPanel has plenty of API calls to build an automated script.

Yes cPanel's API is certainly suited towards this and I think would be the best option.
