Sedo Keyword Optimization

Hello,

I have just started and have bought 50 domains (one has to start somewhere, so I am treating this as start-up capital). I have them parked at Sedo.

It has been about 5 days so far.

However, I am getting almost no hits, and not a single click-through. The total earned is $0.00 so far. While it is still early, I was hoping to have earned at least a few cents by now, so as to get some datapoint about the trajectory.

It appears that I have not understood keyword optimization well. For example, in my signature below, I have the following names :

2008electionnews.com
cancercurenews.com
plasmatvprice.com

What are your opinions on the best keywords to use for these particular domains, for example? I don't think these names are so bad that they should not get even a few cents, but I have yet to make even my first cent on them.

I realize that asking for this might be giving away a few ideas, but I am willing to let that happen at the moment, because I just want to make my first dollar, and learn from there.

Parking at Sedo, or any other domain parking service, is best utilized to monetize existing traffic. It's not the best tactic to generate traffic.

It sounds like your strategy is to capture type-in traffic, which searching Overture data will get you an idea of the size of market. If it's not working, don't sweat it right now. You're only 5 days in and you've got a learning curve ahead of you. I suggest reading the forums and develop a long term strategy. It might require developing the sites.

But then how does anyone start with new domains, that need to get traffic ramped up? How does one start, even if the goal is to make merely cents per day?

I have heard on this board, of newly registered domains getting $1 or more per day, across many domains.

What keywords should I use for those?

It will take some time to get the traffic (and revenue). Plan on about 1-3 months of before you start receiving any sort of traffic.

Keep this in mind, you are limited when developing an SEO strategy with parked domains. There is no real basis for content, other than your domain name and/or general categories or keywords that you designate.

You can use Overture or Wordtracker to develop a nice list of keywords. Keep it at 15 to 30 words max.

Your other option is to develop a small site for each domain, offering a few articles. Join Adsense or Yahoo Publisher to monetize.

Thanks.

So each domains should have as many as 15-30 keywords? I only had 3-4 :(. For whatever reason I thought there was a limit.

Do keywords actually attract traffic, or do they just refine the ads on the parked site?

Would you be able to suggest the best keywords for the 3 domains I listed above? This is just so I can learn the right things, and then apply them to my other 47 domains..

I wouldn't expect any traffic from the keywords you pick for sedo parking... you won't get to the top of search engines with a sedo parked page really so you're mainly dealing with typein traffic.

So what do I do? Just hope that one or two people stumble onto the page and click an ad?

How can I make parking money with these domains? Even if it is only a few cents per day?

Yes, you just hope with raw registered names.
To make parking money, you have to get traffic. Build a site for a name and use adsense or YPN for ads, and if you get tired of maintaining the site, park it. It should get a little trickle of traffic then at least.
If anyone could just register any name and make a few cents a day, everyone would be doing it. It's not that easy at all. I have registered over 500 names and not a one makes a dollar a day on avg in parking.

I registered one a couple of weeks ago, and added it as my signature in a forum I post about 4 to 5 messages a day. Then I parked it at Sedo and I'm averaging $1.30 a day. Not bad for my first experience, I think.

Just a simple, straight parking?

I take it this is one of your best parked sites. What is your *average* across all parked, undeveloped sites at Sedo?

$0.36 with the 9 undeveloped sites

per day? That is not bad at all.

If you are making $0.36 x 9 = $3.30 per day, this is about $1100 per year.

Good job.

Free tip: If you want quick traffic results , just try to reg some typo domains. such as MySface.com ...
I bet you'll see some traffic after a week.
Than you'll feel better and find out some better keywords / typein
domains.
Anyway good luck!

I parked 9 domains last week. Received one click for $.11. I use NameDrive as a holding tank while I develop the sites out.

You can get type-in traffic if you follow trends. Run a whois search for uscvstexas.com on some other forums. You'll see the domain was registered on Dec 5, 2005 (last week). The site gets about 1,000 uniques daily and growing. He's earning $20 - $100 daily and posting his stats online. What a lucky break.

About your keywords...

To give you an idea, these are keywords and the number of times that keyword was searched on last month:

86,877 president
40,312 election
824,287 politics
328,163 cancer
1,712,125 health
915,244 tv
490,458 plasma television

Compiled from Overture

I have a multiple step method that works very well, it includes choosing the best 5 of your domains and making another extra small investment on a marketing plan that best suites first-reg domains. If your interested, or if any other users here are interested, you can PM me here on the site, or contact me <http://jeremysarda.com>.

It would have been a good idea before purchasing all these domains that you spent a little time in the community, reading forums & old sales before you decided to jump into the market. Since these first-reg (first-time registered) domains are packed with good keywords you could possibly generate traffic via SEO, actually hosting & developing the websites.

Either way, best of luck!
