OK, here is a plan..since..as stated in a thread..it seems to be happening with increasing regularity as the sight grows ever larger.

NP, if possible.. can enact a few security measures, as included:

1) Secure Traders
A secure trader will have an active cc on file here. For members here who have established themselves as trustworthy/honest, this can be over ruled based on their past history.
For Domain transactions, a domain can be transfered into an escrow type account in NP's name at the various registrars and the funds deposited to a NP's PayPal acct. (essentially an unofficial escrow service).
NP's can then with-hold a fee to do this...say $2 or 3 bucks.

In this way, both of these will secure the sellers and buyers. The buyers, if they wish to do business here can use the NP secure method. If, on the other hand, an issue does arise... a debit can be taken from their account cc on file. (there are various ways to do that with cc companies)

Those not using a cc to ensure the legitimacy of their sales/purchases can then option to either risk it with a non secure trader or "opt in" for a $5 service fee to NP to act as an intermediary in the transaction.
Opting in will not get you a Secure Flag buy your name (to ID you as a secure NP trader), but will temporarily grant you a trustworthy status with that seller/buyer.

lots of ways to do this...lots.

This has been discussed before, and although it is a good idea, it would just be to hard to implement.

not really.

making a secure site is simple enough to do. while there would be ideas to hash about... once the details get worked on... it wouldnt be so bad really.

the hardest part would be planning. but there is enough free talent here that it could be realistically implemented within a month.

Apollo and I have discussed this before and I believe he still has plans to offer a "secure transaction" mini-escrow type of service in the near future through NamePros.

I'm also considering a way of publically identifying users as secure traders, similarly to how Squaretrade works with eBay. Users would register with the "seal program" and agree to follow a certain code of ethics and dispute resolution and in doing such would be able to have the certified trader seal visiable in the NamePros profile. That way you could more readily identify trusted users.

Ya, I think it would work, it would just require a lot of work to plan and set it up. If RJ is planning this already, then I can't wait.

No, I would agree with that Zurax. I don't plan on keeping anyone's credit card numbers on file. If we decided to do some kind of credit card verification, there are other methods for doing so... using 2Checkout, for instance for a nominal charge.

On another subject, I am interested in some private feedback and help with reviewing and discussing a domainer's "code of ethics". If anyone would like to work on this with me, please PM. I figure once we have an initial draft we can open it up for public review.
