Is there any way to register a .NO or .IS domainname without having presence in the country? Or is this completely impossible? What is the price?

PS: CentralNIC does sell .no.com subdomains and without any 'local presence' required, but this is of course less good than an actual .NO domain.

Not according to the registries. Both say you must have a local presence.

To register and hold a domain name under .no you need to:

* have a local presence in Norway
* be an organization, currently this is defined as certain organization types registered in the Brønnøysund Register Centre
* ensure that the domain name is technically operative

The domain's administrative contact must be an Icelandic legal entity, domiciled in Iceland.

2.2. Domestic Applicants

2.2.1. All domestic legal entities registered with an Id. No. and name in the Public Register of Enterprises or the National Register of the Statistical Bureau of Iceland are eligible to apply for a domain according to these rules.

2.2.2. A domestic applicant may register a unrestricted number of domains.

2.3. Foreign Applicants

2.3.1. A foreign legal entity with no Icelandic Id. No. may apply for a domain on the basis of a registered trade mark which is already registered with the Icelandic Patent Office. Only one domain may be applied for on the basis of each trade mark. The trade mark must consist of letters and/or numerals exclusively. A foreign applicant shall specify an Icelandic agent as administrative contact for the domain.

2.3.2. A foreign party holding an international legal status, or internationally regarded as having such a status may apply for one domain. Examples are foreign embassies, organizations constituted under international law and international sports federations. A foreign applicant shall specify an Icelandic agent as administrative contact for the domain.

I suggest you make a Norwegian and Icelandic friend so you can use their info, or find someone who's trustworthy, reliable and willing to let you use their details for a fee.

Other than that, you're out of luck.
