Nice pick-ups. I'm from South Carolina, and this could be a great localized extension.

I picked up state.sc, as the main goverment address of the state is state.sc.us. I'm hoping for traffic from government types and citizens who forget to add the ".us" and so forth, but we'll see. Maybe money well spent...maybe not. Time will tell.

That is pretty expensive, however there are more expensive from what I noticed over the years in terms of other extensions that arent very popular.

I'm not even going to try my luck with the .sc domains because of it's registration costs, all the money I spend might not even be worth the registration fee. :p

this is true - and i thank you for your warm wishes - but if'd posted this thread back in the mid 90's about .coms im sure id have received a similar response.. And what would i be sitting on now...

That is the thing about speculation (which is what most of us serious domainers are all about) and that is, you either pick up what are now less than scraps in a tried and tested market (such as .com), registering 3 and 4 word .coms for reg fee and selling for $10 profit. Or, go with your gut feeling and speculate.... There is a chance, a very good chance, that i will lose a good deal of money with these registrations... On the other hand.....
