I drive a 2006 Toyota Tundra crew cab every day, It has a V8, I was getting around 15 city - 17 highway, then i figured out something that increased my mileage significantly.

I am now getting 19.7 miles a gallon highway, 17 city, what i am doing, using my cruise control. that's it. once i get on the highway, I set my cruise control, I do not slow down, I just go around people that are driving slow. I use the same method while driving in the congested city traffic, When i know i am going on a long run, I set the cruise control, and practice the same method as on the highway, I just go around people, what ever i need to do to not to brake on and off frequently.

What i have noticed using the cruise control. It stops accelerating when going down hills, Using the pass technique, I am not braking and accelerating. It is working for me.

Almost a gain of 3 miles per gallon highway - two solid gallons city :D

Good find but there is an even better way of saving gas then that.

It is pretty simple, feather the pedal. When going downhill let off the gas but remain at the same speed or above if going back up the other side. You can increase on average of 4 MPG this way.

Just my opinion and experience,

There's even a better method.....get a bicycle & sell the car ;)

you won't get too far from it like 19.7 miles
but get a horse but you still need to feed it.

Cool idea! I never thought about using the cruise control for improving fuel efficiency.

It won't cost you anything though as there's plenty of grass everywhere :)

Good tip, another one is to accelerate very gradually. I went from 20 mpg city to 70 mpg city by getting a motorcycle though :tu:

It costs me a whopping $12 to fill my tank, and is saving me hundreds of dollars a month in gas :)

I've been doing this for about a year to save fuel myself. Since most of my driving consists of highway driving, I've gone from 17 mpg to 22 mpg average. :tu: Glad it's working for others.

You might be interested in these articles showing the real reason for gas and food 'shortages'.

The first one shows the Commodities Futures Markets are being manipulated. There are huge tankers full of oil in Mexico and Iran but they are being left there to drive the prices up. It's not food shortages that are causing problems either, it's that food is being priced out of reach of the poor.

Second one is the Russians claim that they've known since the 1950's that Oil and Gas are NOT fossil fuels and therefore Peak Oil is a scam to drive up prices. Apparently they tried to share their knowledge during the Cold War but Western geologists wouldn't listen. The Russians tested and proved their theories, and as a result are now the worlds largest producer of oil and gas.
