Review for harbor site

I have put together a mockup website I am hoping to use to advertise available docks at harbors. I may need to add some navigation bar in after the header in the future.

The right hand will dynamically list the available docks, possibly with pictures too.

Let me know: Harbor Site

Thank you in advance,
Chad

It looks very unprofessional. If I were you, I would hire a pro designer.. Just my 2 cents.. If you really want me to go deeper ask..

If you could go deeper I think it might help.

(will add rep points)

Colors don't match, looks like you made it in 5 minutes. As well as the template seems very cluttered. The graphics itself don't match, such as the blue underneath with the red/orange/yellow banner.

If I were you, I would look around at similar boating sites.. Try to mimic a few things here and there.

Don't use a gray background either. That made everything 10x worse.. Its not needed..

I know I'm being a little brutal, but google "how to web design" "web design better".. Your start to understand how to things better. How to create a dynamic/static layout. As well as match colors better. If you want simple, thats fine. But you have to make it look good.

All in all, boats/oceans etc remind me of blue/aqua/and white..

Rep is not needed, but appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to explain your feedback.

Now that you mention the colors I see your point... I was shooting for a unique blue aqua mix design. I think I took the unique area a little to far.

Why the gray background...
I came across the banner picture and liked it a lot. I think that is where things started to fall apart. (I was trying to force the banner into the rest of the site. thus the grey background)

I will definitely take your feedback and go rework my design to be a bit more simple.
I really do want to work the banner in...

(gave you rep.. thanks again)

I'd hire someone if I were you, I don't know if you quite have the designers eye, but then again neither do I

I dont believe I have enough $$ to get a designer at this stage. I will probably go look around for a template of some sort and work off of that.

I orginally started out using a color wheel websites and try to base the colors off of those. I failed on the fact that I didnt hold to it. I know that orange wasnt on it.

Thanks for the comment.

If you're looking for templates to work from try http://www.opendesigns.org/view-designs/

As with your design, the main problem is the contrast of orange/blue. They're too separate if you see what I mean. I do see some potential in the design, it's not ALL THAT BAD. I design websites, I think this could be salvaged ;)

Thank you for the reply.. The templates there are nice. I was orginally looking at oswd.org ...

You think the layout works? When I get the opportunity I will try to put back in my blue header picture.

I think I could make it a night setting with a moon instead of sun? That would make it a dark blue to a with a gradient to a lighter one. I just worry there would be too much blue in the entire design and might make the whole thing to dark...

(Thinking I might have to abandon this header pic)

Yes it's better to put a nice log and remove the orange image to the top
