Drone delivery may eliminate pharmacy trips in MICHIGAN

The University of Michigan's Michigan Medicine is getting ready to start delivering meds right to patients' doors.

Michigan Medicine has developed a partnership with drone manufacturer Zipline.

"It's a 15-minute delivery window. Our truck deliveries are packaged and sent within 48 hours," said Dana Habers at U of M Health.

"It allows new patients who are starting new treatments or therapies to get that drug in hand almost the minute they get home from their clinic visit."

Drones deliver life-saving medical supplies in RWANDA

Zipline is using drones to deliver life-saving medical supplies to otherwise inaccessible locations in Rwanda, including blood and blood plasma.

The technology has made it possible for blood supplies to reach remote Rwandan villagers faster than they reach hospitals in the United States.

This is a much simpler and more efficient way of getting Rwandans needed medical supplies than waiting for the government to invest the time and resources into paving the roads.

Summer pilot program will see drones deliver prescriptions to seniors in CHANDLER, AZ

Drones will deliver medical supplies from an Omnicare pharmacy to a Chandler, AZ, assisted living community this summer.

The City of Chandler has approved agreements with Airspace Link and with the Maricopa Association of Governments to test the technology.

The pilot project will run for two weeks and is being funded by MAG through its Emerging Technologies Field Pilots On-Call program.

The use of drones to deliver prescriptions to senior living residents previously was tested in 2019 in North Carolina in a program between Omnicare parent company CVS Health and UPS.

Project to use drones for medical deliveries in LIMERICK, IRELAND

The City of Limerick and Innovate Limerick have been awarded €50,000 from the Public Service Innovation Fund to develop their Healthcare Drone Delivery project.

The proposal is to use delivery drones to streamline medical deliveries, expand patient capacity, reduce overcrowding in hospital EDs, and improve patient healthcare outcomes.

This will involve a full risk analysis of the chosen air corridors, community engagement, and a review of how the service integrates with healthcare providers.

Autonomous drones deliver AEDs in SWEDEN and DENMARK

Everdrone has created a service capable of delivering Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in medical emergencies.

A man in cardiac arrest was the first case of a patient being saved by Everdrone’s Emergency Medical Aerial Delivery (EMADE) service, which is operational in Sweden and Denmark and able to reach 340,000 people.

Everdrone is widening its scope to deliver other time-sensitive medical supplies such as low-weight autoinjectors carrying epinephrine for anaphylactic shock, nasal dispensers with naloxone for opioid overdoses and single-use glucagon for hypoglycemia.

At the same time, Everdrone is expanding its range of services to include live view imagery to support time-critical decision-making in cases of fire or traffic accidents.

Drones deliver medications to hospital in UPSTATE NEW YORK

Drones are transporting medications from a pharmacy directly to Upstate Community Hospital in Syracuse, NY.

Upstate leaders also said they're looking at doing home delivery of medications to patients living near the hospital.

"We needed to be more efficient in moving supplies around because we're so spread out with three hospitals and other facilities around the region," said Upstate University Hospital CEO Robert Corona.

"So the most efficient way, we thought, was to go with drones."

Drone delivery of lab specimens underway in CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA

FirstHealth has become the second health care system in North Carolina to use drones for lab delivery thanks to a partnership with Causey Aviation.

The new pilot program sees lab specimens flown to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC from two of the non-profit's local clinics.

Average drone deliveries, with two miles or less to travel, take as little as two to three minutes. There is also less chance of specimen damage or contamination.
