Basic Database Help

Where is a good place to start to build a database.

I know alot about computers mainly the graphics end, but I have never really dabbled with Excell or mysql, but I am sure I could learn it easily.

Anyway I have about 600 restraunts which I want to make a list of and include it to one of my websites. I have everthing in a word file "just the name, address, cusine and phone number is what I am entering." I guess the main thing is..What is the best way/program to import this data into a basic searchable database. Sorry if I am confussing. Also my other option is just giving the to someone and having them import it for me in to Excel or Mysql.

Thanks,
Brian

A good place to start would be http://www.devshed.com/c/b/MySQL also of course keep in mind the mysql manual located at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/ (there are also tutorial located at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/4.1/en/tutorial.html). Be sure however to make sure you are reading the manual for the version of mysql you are using.

Regarding the best way to enter the content of the word doc into a database, it really depends on how the document is formed. I doubt it is csv so your only options might be is to use a scripting language or doing it manually.
