Hi all :)

I have a few Domains which will expire soon and just wondering what you think I should do, renew or drop?

www.AucNic.com - I guess this one I should renew as the site is just about completed, I'm just not sure now if I like this Domain for a Domain Name Auction site.

www.BoatBay.com - Had development plans for this one but just havn't gotten around to it yet. I am sure eBay would be happy if I let it drop as they tried to take it from me about 1 year ago.

BidWheels.com - I thought it was a nice play on words "Hot Wheels" and would make for a nice Auto Auction site.

Finally Taboobid.com - Another Auction Domain I thought which would be nice for Adult Items, I like the way it looks but I think it has something to do with the 4 letter word in the middle.

Development might be the only way to go with these as they are made up.

Feedback much appreciated :)

Thanks,

Mike

I would renew them, they look sellable for at least two years of reg fees. And approach ebay again about BoatBay. Could make a quick couple hundred dollars, if not more. Otherwise you could consider giving them away free (near expire domains people dont want, they sometimes just give away - or use them as a prize).

Just to help you stop delaying development - renew for one year only - then drop them next year if nothing done.

Hi,

Don't know about the other names, but keep Boatbay.com. Renew it for a longer time than 1 or 2 years.

I was at the site and saw that the logo for boatbay is not so good. It gets read as B-atbay, first. Try changing the wheel on the O to something not so eyecathing, or change the wheel to the same blue colour.

Good Luck.

Hey Mike - I like BoatBay.com and BidWheels.com - They could be good solid portals if developed - Dont worry to much about ebay and bay keyword domains. They send a C&D and never seem to follow up on them. We have many Bay related domains and all they do is have their TM folks keyword search every registered domain with the word bay in them. Their TM is EBAY and it is a "long stretch" for anything else. The only one we have ever sold them as a surrender was EbayClub.com and they paid well for that one. Good luck!!!

Yea Mike can't you pick up one of those auction softwares, and just throw it up for BoatBay.com, I think it would be worth keeping, let me know, I'll give you $20 for it.

Agree, for nominal Reg. fee's. Also agree that "BoatBay.com" may offer the most upside of the lot. Development could add to valuations.
Best of Luck here.

I like them all, except aucnic.com. That one sounds auc-ward to me.

Anything "bay" with a hint of auction will get you in trouble with eBay.

I think you should keep the Tippy,

NOte: There is an adult site I think it is nastybids.com that is seeming to buy up a ton of adult type auction sites and names in the past couple of years. Good Luck

dump aucnic.com
and renew the rest.
I agree with TC on the "bay" thing. I could see the name selling to a moorage or boat storage place though. If used as an auction site you'd probably see a C&D.
JMHO
Good Luck!

Thank you all for your feedback, very much appreciated.

I think I will renew all of them, I have a couple more days to think about it.

I might try and sell my AucNic on eBay cant see why it wouldnt sell for a few bucks.

About the BoatBay.com , when eBay sent their C&D I went back and forth with them stating that they dont own the "Bay" term. I also told them that the site would have many tools for Boaters including an Auction and Classifieds section. Then the emails stopped.

Thanks again,

Mike

The TM potential here is murky, I'd agree. Receiving a C&D, and actually losing the domain name are two entirely different things, IMO.
Personally, I wouldn't be afraid to renew it and see what comes of it. However, I've never received a C&D, either. :o
Best of Luck.
PS. I ain't no lawyer. :)

I don't think I will sell BoatBay, I could have more fun developing it then getting drunk on a case of 24 :)
