Did you know that registras pay $6.25 for .com domains but only $4.50 for .net domains. The only registra that I know of that passes on the savings to their customers is Moniker.com. (You could say that RegisterFly does with their $2.99 for year 1 but they sell .net domains for $6.50 to their resellers)
Here are the costs that a registra pays:
.com - $6.25
.net - $4.50
.org - $6.25*
.info - $6.00**
.biz - $5.55
*1st year cheaper for developing markets ($1.25)
**1st year cheaper ($1)
If more people were educated about the costs of domain registration then maybe we wouldn't be paying so much for .net and .biz renewals.
No type domain reseller that I know of receives .net domains for less than $6.49! Every domain reseller option that I know of pays the same for .net as .com
In the situation that the registra is receiving $6.50 per domain from the resellers, they are receiving $.25 for every .com and $2 for every .net. That is 8 times as much. This means that a lot of resellers are paying more for the .net registration than the .com registration despite that there are a lot more .com domains being registered.
This Sucks!
