Really? Wow, that helps me out a ton :)

That's a good point. I really think it would make more sense for Google to evaluate PageRank based on the www.------ and without www. versions of the site, since they are the same page afterall.

Id have to agree with Elefekt, great explanation. :tu:

They're not always the same site, although Google usually recognizes if they are the same after repeated crawls and merges their entries in search results under one of the variations of the domain. PR on the toolbar doesn't always reflect PR used in SERPs either.

That's true, although they are most likely the same site. I wonder how that would affect PageRank...

This is a silly mistake from google point of view, they need to fix it really and for the pr to undertsand taht http:// and www are the same thing

You need to fix your understanding of the Internet to know that domain.com and www.domain.com don't have to be the same, and in enough cases aren't to warrant assuming there might be different content on the two URLs if some people link to one and another to the other (otherwise the domain without www.* wouldn't have gotten any PR).

how do you conclude that http and www are the same

http is a protocol

www is an extension put onto a domain but could easily be ww1 ww2 etc etc as many large companies do (each would point to a different server)

Yes, filth is right, www is not with http so like Elefekt said, I noticed this one of my sites as well.

the www on your domain is just like a subdomain and can point to a diffrent site, I have seen a few sites that the domain.com points to one site and the www.domain.com points to a completly diffrent site or some use one for testing purpose. It would be cool if google reconised if your domain.com and www.domain.com was the same site and gave you a PR on both.

Internally, Google does recognize it after enough crawls (you'll notice search results will stop showing both and only have one domain format), but they usually don't assign one PR to both on the toolbar.

All my domains have the same PR on different "formats":

http://www.domain.com
www.domain.com
domain.com

heh, never noticed that about google page rank

google's pr rating seems to be buggered at the moment.

ive got sites with nothing on it and all of a sudden a couple of weeks ago they got pr of 3

Oh okay that's was why I kept getting 0.

:D

heh, hope the new site I start gets a good pagerank :)

I wish PR actually meant something. What used to be huge changes (PR6 to 7, PR0 to 4) now do almost nothing to actual search ranks.
