I tried registering LowCostRealtors.com and got this letter then cancelled the domain:
Dear xxxxxxxxx:
It has recently come to the National Association of REALTORS®’s (“NAR”) attention that you have registered the LOWCOSTREALTORS(dot)com
domain, which improperly incorporates NAR’s trademarks. We respectfully request that you immediately cease any use or proposed use of this improper domain name.
As a member of NAR, you know that NAR is the exclusive owner of the REALTOR®, REALTORS®, REALTOR ASSOCIATE® and REALTOR with Block “R” Logo trademarks (“REALTOR® Marks”), which are federally registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. NAR licenses use of the REALTOR® Marks to its Members, and each Member agrees, as a part of their local Association’s Bylaws, to abide by NAR’s rules governing such use. The short video Make Our Marks Remarkable in the Law, Ethics and policy section of REALTORS.org explains the importance of proper use of the REALTOR® Marks by Members. You may find additional information in NAR’s Membership Marks Manual, available through Realtor.org: Membership Marks Manual.
NAR expressly prohibits the use of descriptive words or phrases, including geographical locations, with the REALTOR® Marks. A Member is allowed to use the REALTOR® Marks in connection with his/her name and, if the principals, partners and corporate officers of the Member’s firm are all Members as well, then the full legal name of his/her firm. These rules apply in print and digital media, including domain names. For example, the following are proper uses of the REALTOR® Marks in domain names by broker John Doe of ABC Realty:
<johndoerealtor(dot)com>
<jdoerealtor(dot)com>
<johnrealtor(dot)com>
<abcrealtyrealtors(dot)com>
The LOWCOSTREALTORS(dot)com
domain violates these rules, and NAR therefore requests that you delete the domain registration for this domain name and end all other uses of the domain, including, but not limited to, use of the domain in promotional and advertising materials for your business, and use of the domain to redirect to another website. You may of course, register and use a new domain name that incorporates the REALTOR® Marks in a manner that complies with NAR’s rules governing such use.
As a Member of NAR, you are aware of the importance of protecting and promoting the valuable REALTOR® Marks. We are confident that you will make the right decision and end any use of this domain name. We request that you promptly confirm you will comply with this request.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mary Newill, Trademark Administrator
