A lot of those "Facts" that have been oft-repeated endlessly are only truism's
not based in FACT
example
The truism about Ducks Quacks not echoing is easy to explain and has never been a Mystery

Why don't they echo?

They don't echo because of the almost perfect sinusiodal waveform which when reflected is canceled by the louder original sound

-The term "the whole 9 yards" came from W.W.II fighter pilots in the South Pacific. When arming their airplanes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measured exactly 27 feet, before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, it got "the whole 9 yards."

Cool story but the origin of this saying goes way beyond WWII and USA. It was a term used for saying that suit was of quality. Whole 9 yards were used to make it. The fighter pilots may have re-popularized the phrase since the belts measured 9 yeards.

Cool thread. I love "facts" like this especially when people correct a few of them here and there.

On another Note: Bump :)

Indeed, but the fact was, "the strongest muscle is the tongue". The Jaw is not a muscle, it is a joint ... isn't it ;) ?
