My question is that why 3 character domain e.g. xyz.com , abc.net so expensive? Aside that it has only 3 letters to memorize is there any relevance it's considered a premium one? Anyone?

Many companies like to use acronyms instead of their longer legal names not only for internet, but general use. Think IBM - International Business Machines; ABC American Broadcasting Company; or WWF - World Wildlife Fund. TLA's are fairly rare, and there is competition for them. Some new companies would even find a name to fit one they might find priced right.
