Putting it to use

Ok every programming language I learn has the same basic things. Variables, functions, loops, etc... After I learn them though I find myself bored. The point of learning the language is to use it. How do people actually make large "programs"? Do they just use those simple rules? I learned quite a bit of python last night and today but I cant find any big use for it yet. I know I have a lot more to learn but do you have any examples of what you could do with the knowledge?

i just build a website

for no apparent reason, i never finish it but i get the coding in there and start to mix it with other bits n stuff

I know exactly what you're saying really, it's not just you, I think it happens to most everyone. But to build a large program will take days upon days.. I think you just have to stick with it, keep trying small things and build up to the big ones and they'll naturally come to you that way. If you have an idea try it, see how it turns out and go from there. If you need an idea ask here and I'll bet you'll get plenty and especially them nearly impossible or to complicated or silly ideas, but you'll find something eventually. :D I would just say stick with it and try it if you're ready or just let it come to you. Simple scripts/programs can be very useful as well.
