Program to check Whois details

Looking to put together a little program to check for whois details such as administrative contact, expiry date and of course whether the domain is owned or back in the pool of available names.

Preferred language c# - since that's what I know best. Can anyone point me in the right direction - some sample code as to how to query for this sort of stuff, class libraries used, etc. Thanks.
