Problem with Audacity (Sound Recorder Program)

Hey,

I recently got my girlfriend to sing i dont wanna know

i recorded it with Audacity right

Then i layered it and added my crap beatboxing in the background

basically:

BOO T BOO T KEH T BOO BOO T BOO T KEH T T BOO T BOO BOO T KEH T

ummm

then I clicked on File then clicked Save Project As

Then i saved it as "I dont wanna know"

and the filename now is:

I dont wanna know.aup

Problem

When i open the .aup File (the Project) and Click File and then click Export as MP3... It saves as .aup again and not .mp3

Does anyone know how i can change my .aup (Audacity Project File) Into a friggen MP3 because the song and the beatboxing on the background was pretty good

Why i am eager to get this changed into an .mp3 is because the song sounds like "These Kids" by Joel Turner which also has beatboxing on the background


please please help me

export as a .wav and use the lame encoder (http://www.mp3dev.org/) to translate the .wav into a .mp3

im not exactly sure why, but audacity seems to have trouble with mp3 exporting :/
