Hi Folks
Thanks for your opinions. This is a really interesting area. I think sometimes its easy to get caught up in .coms and become a little blinklered about other extensions. Of course .coms are the holy grail of extensions however where the business or service of the domain is country specific then the country extension can be close behind the value of a .com.
I always try to think of my own surfing habbits when buying a domain. Take this example:
I live in the UK. If i was looking for a new kitchen and had the google search results infront of me and had the choice of the following two domains:
newkitchens.com
newkitchens.co.uk
I would ALWAYS click on the .co.uk because I know that this will be a company in the uk who will be able to supply me with a new kitchen. The .com could be anyware and becomes second choice.
I do this all the time when I am looking for a product or service from the uk.
Of course if it is a global sevrice such as godaddy etc the .com rules the roost.
Same as sateliteTV.com and sateliteTV.co.uk I would always click on the .co.uk first because I know without looking this site is going to be relevant to the satelite tv stations in the uk.
As someone pointed out earlier in the thread people in business know that this is how people surf so when they are looking for a domain for a country specific service they are going to want to get the a good country specific extension as well as the .com
The uk has a huge economy and Paid TV here is a huge mutlimillion pound industry so I hope in time that the domain will be worth something. But we shall see.
Definatley going to sit on this and approach some companys. Will let you know how I get on!!!
Cheers
