When regging a domain, especially a .tv since it costs 3 to 6 times a .com depending where you register the domain. You need to have a pre reg routine

Do not ask others what to do with the name if you have no clue, you were the one who regged it.

IMO you buy a domain for one of four reasons:

FLIP IT
Develop IT
PPC
Investment/Waiting for end user

So first pre reg question should be:

Which category does this domain go under?

What can this domain be used for? Personal/Hobby or Commercial/Business
Who are the potential end users for this domain?
Why would they need this domain?
What will I do with this domain if I cannot flip or sell to end user?
Where do I find the end users for this domain?

If you cannot answer these questions, do not register the domain. IMO

The pool of available domains worthwhile in .tv is getting slimmer, it probably makes sense to buy a good .tv in the secondary market. Hopefully you can get a good .tv in the $300 to $1000 range.

Quality over Quantity better to have 1 or 2 good domains then several bad domains Nouns and Verbs are far superior to Adverbs and Adjectives

Because a domain is a premium does not mean adding ing or ed to your domain makes it a premium

Sex.tv Excellent Sexing.tv not so much
Game.tv excellent Gamed.tv not so much

There are exceptions Race/Racing Boat/Boating but for the most part they are already regged

Great post from me as well, with one comment.

Gaming.tv would be a great catch.

Right I said there are exceptions I gave 2 I could have given 200 but those 200 are long since regged

Thank God for this post! I'm a .tv fan but I am seeing a lot of speculators who get a name because it pops into their head then they ask for an appraisal.

Why ask us for an appraisal when we have no idea what you have in mind for development, or price appreciation.

Thanks for keeping this topic sane.

Fair enough.

I search at enom.tv, if one pops up that is premium, I go ahead and hit enter to submit my iformation, what can it hurt?

If it does show as availble, I put it through 3 tests)

1) Google Results. Less then 5 Million, and I don't even consider it for an off .com registration. If the registration was the same as dot com, I would consider down to 10,000 results.
2) Overture on the word or phrase itself. This isn't a deciding factor, but it helps me to know.
3) "Catchyness" If it is a primary name, does it fit with dot tv, if it is a two word name, is it worth money now in ANY other extension. If it isn't worth more then $25 in a .mobi or .net, then you can be pretty sure it isn't worth anything in dot tv.

Finally, do I like it? If I say it outloud, and I don't immeadiatly have 4 or 5 images pop in my head of what it could be, then it is probably crap.

Great post.

I agree 100% with everything you said.

I do get a little annoyed with the number of people who ask for views on buys they have made "as they sound good" but have no idea what to do with the domain, who would buy it...etc
So i hope everyone will start doing these Pre Reg checks and maybe there will be a higher quality of buys and a few less bad buys.

Good post. :great:

I have to say that this post really got me thinking. Seems this is going a bit crazy (just like the dotcom craze of the late 90s!) and people are registering any old rubbish just to get a bit of a portfolio together. And I am as guilty as anyone! I have always bought domains with certain criteria in mind: 5million google, 7 letters or less, one word etc.. but that's not enough because my thought processes are all wrong! I do a search and I think waaaayheyyyy redistributings.tv is available! Whoooa must reg it quick....it's a classy one worder!!

...then next day i see my folly! A bit like going out, getting drunk and waking up to find the girl you are with is not so much Sharon Stone, as 30 stone.

So then in the clear light of day I think...hmmm redistributing.tv who the f**k will want that? and what the hell could that be used for? But they are the kind of questions I should have been asking in the first place!

So I have some good names now and some bad names but i realise there are few decent (non-premium) names left. I have to be alot more diligent if I'm gonna reg anything otherwise it's just throwing money down the drain.

So thanks for starting this topic. You have got me to reevaluate!
