Some of us like to use a tmpfs filesystem, which lives in memory.
Not as needed as much now with SSDs but it still improves performance of operations that do a lot reading/writing to the file system.

Not many people are using Linux (Unix) on an ultrabook.
Fewer people are doing something that requires a lot of i/o on Linux on an ultrabook.

Same question. What application are you running in Linux on an Ultrabook that requires that much i/o?

Me? I don't have an Ultrabook - my laptops are Lenovo T520 and T410 (Windows 7 and CentOS 7 respectively) but I only have 4GB of ram on one and 2GB on other.

Still though I can see why someone might want a lot.

Photoshop, btw, is really faster when you use a ram disk for your work. As is ffmpeg. And yes, you can do those things on an ultrabook - in which case all the speed benefits you can get are wanted.

Where can I see @Cyberian spec?

My Internet Explorer version is: 6.0.2900.5512.xpsp.080413-2111 to be exact but I never us it.

For many years I was using Firefox 2.2 which was really nice, light, fast but about a year ago I've upgraded to 3.0 version. This 3.0 version is now too old for viewing many modern websites properly (like this forum, YouTube, facebook, twitter, etc.)

For example when entering YT I see the message(this is translation):
"This video is unavailable.
To play this video you need Adobe Flash Player or browser, that supports HTML5. Download the latest version of Flash Player. Learn more about upgrading your browser to support HTML5 version"

When using FF 2.2 ver. and entering one mobile phone operator I was seeing only a piece of rock on the page and the message at the bottom:
"Your browser is as old as this rock. Please upgrade it to new version" :D

When entering gmail I use basic (light) version of the site.

For the modern sites I am forced to run such a giant like Opera 9.0 or heavy weight champion Chromium 22.0.
Using those monsters requires infinite patience...

What can I say more...
I can't watch YT videos in HD, even 360p is too advanced for my machine. So I download videos on hard disc with YTD Video Downloader. Watching movies in HD is impossible...well, actually possible but 90min. film goes so slowly that I would need several hours to finish it. I can afford only 480p.
I have 2 MBit Internet connection, use about 20 years old keyboard of Microsoft, I listen music on Winamp 5.33, use Photoshop 6.0 and other old stuff...
