Possible TM issue?

Considering buying a .com domain. It's a short word associated with a fairly well-known rock band who owns the .net.

Someone filed a trademark application in July 2014, probably the band's manager. Strange that it wasn't trademarked before. The .com existed before then, of course.

Would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this!

A little more info - the .com is 16yrs old. The band has been around since the 80's. Not sure why the TM wasn't filed until July 2014. Any advice would be appreciated, even if it's very obvious advice.

Depends on your intended usage and how generic it is.
If it's investment your resale value would be restricted by the scope and strength of the mark.

If you are interested in it BECAUSE of the rock band, give it a miss, imho.
