Eeek! Hopefully they're new enough to get a refund. If not, I'd recommend disabling auto-renew. jmo.

midlandoilcompany.com - only name I see worth keeping as Midland TX is a big oil town.

Thank you for your "informed" opinion. You might need to get out of Texas (or the US) more! (South Oil Co., North Oil Co. are the largest oil companies in Iraq and in fact the world!). Thanks though :)
restyourself, netoftax, lady&i etc. are all valuable names ...
the "abu" group are highly brandable if you understood arabic - thanks though!

flamingfeet, godoughnuts, muchconfusion etc defin. have value beyond reg fee too! Waiting for a more informed response ...

Oh ok, you're right, they are 'valuable' names with value above reg fee, that's why they were all available 'waiting for you' to register them within the past few days!!

Yes, do wait for a more 'informed' opinion/response. Maybe even reg some more 'valuable waiting to be regged' names for your collection.

It appears you're looking for validation and praise, not an appraisal.

Not really. However, I do expect a bit more intelligence to be displayed on a thread and forum that prides itself on its "expertise".

There are 166 domains on this list.

That is over $1,500/year in renewals.

90% of the domains on this list have under 10 searches per month.

I seriously doubt you will make money on these.

Please keep in mind that when you ask for an appraisal on a public forum that you will get mixed responses ranging from garbage domains to solid gold investments. Everyone has a different method of appraising most times and not everyone's going to agree. Just try to keep an open mind as appraisals come in and try not to take anything to personal :)

Welcome to NamePros,

I had a quick look and sorry to ruin your hopes, you wasted your money. I don't think there is one single domain that you could sell high enough and recoup your investment. Write this off as education for tax purposes.
It's normal to make mistakes when you're starting out, but you didn't have to purchase so many domains if you don't know what you're doing.

Proof is in the math, see post by Bmugford above. For that money you could have bought one premium domain on the aftermarket (renewal cost: $10/yr if you don't sell for a profit before renewal). Your portfolio is a liability. You can only cut losses now.

The domains that sell are typically those that can be used for business and that have some brandability and other desirable features. Let's consider DRUNKENPOLITICIAN.COM to take just one example. The name has a negative connotation. It could be developed into a parody site of some sort, but undeveloped the name has no particular value. Nobody is going to buy this one from you, just for the sake of building a low key website, especially when there is no shortage of alternatives. End users don't like to buy domains at a premium price, they need a compelling reason.

Southoilcompany .com is fairly business related I'd say (just to name one!) Get access to Google before being so arrogantly dismissive! In terms of branding, do you even know what abufloos means? Guess not. Cheers for your "insight". P.s. domain index values the collection at over $150k excluding the Arabic names!

Automated appraisal tools are worthless...

Prove the "experts" wrong then and find buyers for these. I don't think it will be as easy as you think.

"South Oil Company" has 590 global exact searches.

You also might want to read up on trademark issues, as the search volume is clearly tied to a company called the same.

South Oil Company (SOC) is a national Iraqi company responsible for the oil in the south of Iraq. It is situated in Basrah, Iraq. South oil company is one of the major fundamental formations of the Iraq National Oil Company (INOC).

I certainly do not think it will be easy or swift. However, I know how to spot a long term investment and value when I see it. That's not to say they're all fantastic. But I only need 10% to sell well to get a good return. I value other people's opinions, which is why I posted in the first instance. However, I'm less enthusiastic about dismissive, poorly researched responses! Time will tell I guess ...

---------- Post added at 04:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:22 PM ----------

It's generic, no TM issues.

---------- Post added at 04:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:22 PM ----------

Number of searches is irrelevant. It's an exact match for a massive co.

Those two statements kind of contradict each other.
It is an exact match of a major company but not a TM issue?

Regardless, good luck.
In the future I would invest in less higher quality domains.

You should be more enthusiastic about the poorly researched domains you bought!

Number of searches is irrelevant. It's an exact match for a massive co.
OK...
Just curious, why do you join this forum and ask for (far more experienced!) others here to appraise your names, when you seem to know more than us on branding, TMs, search counts etc.??? Just bored, and wanted to mess with us (in your mind) "supposedly real domainers'? Again, just curious.

Please advise re TM as my research has led me to think there's no infringement here. After all, there are many south oil companies in the world ...

---------- Post added at 04:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:32 PM ----------

I'm interested in getting feedback. I value other people's opinions as I said. I don't necessarily agree with everything the "experts" have to say however ...

---------- Post added at 04:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:35 PM ----------

An exact match for a generically named company that has not, to my knowledge, registered a trademark. Where's the contradiction?

Where are the other companies called "South Oil Company"?

Pretty much every relevant result in Google is related to this company.

Their current website is - http://www.soc-basrah.com/

There are not a lot of "generic" uses for this term, and the truth is that if the company wanted the domain it would not have been available to hang reg in 2012.

Not true. Iraq is hardly at the cutting edge of technology! They have registered a domain with a hyphen in it after all ... !

---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:42 PM ----------

Iran and Kazakhstan both have south oil companies by the way ...

Anyway, will catch up with this tmr as it's 1:48am in london! Night all :)
