POP3 Gmail?

I found this little app today which converts your GMAIL so that it can be read in an email client such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird or whatever:

Apparently Gmail will eventually become a POP3 deal whenever it goes public. Or at least, that's what I heard...

I don't think Gmail will be going public anytime soon, since it's popularity is based on the fact that it's invite only. Also an email system is soo dynamic it could take months and months or work just testing, from what I've heard they haven't been working too hard on it lately.
