Theres a TV station in the UK that broadcasts live internet poker

I have a poker site that refers to the name of this TV station in the body text on the opening page.

I have received an email from this TV company asking me who gave me permission to refer to them on the site as they state the names are copyrighted and in me referring to them is a breach of their copright.

Now, to my knowledge, names cannot be copyrighted...????

They do not own the trademark on either of these names.

I also have another domain/site that is a generic poker .tv name but also the same name of one of their shows.

Again they do not own the trademark of this either.

So the question is, what are they up to. My guess is they tried to regged the name, couldnt and found me referring to them.

Well, in the United States, the general rule is that Titles cannot be trademarked, so the title of a TV show cannot, but if you reg ABCFootball.com and then use content from American Broadcasting Co. on the site, it is a copyright violation. I'm not familiar with British Law as I only study American Law, Taiwanese Law, a bit from other Asian Countries, a bit of Austraialian and broad Internationall such as the Geneva Conventions.
