We have just finished building www.OilPrice.Com and i would love to hear your views on the site.
Basically what we do is give away financial data, commodity quotes that would normally cost hundreds or thousands of dollars a month.
We have also created charts and data panels that you only need to copy and paste - so it's incredibly easy to have good looking financial data on your site for free.

We have also lined up some great financial journalists and Economists to add articles to the site - to keep the content updated daily and also be of interest to visitors.
(please don't let the quality of the current content fool you - it's not bad , but what you'll see in a month is in a different league.)

My one concern is that the homepage looks a bit too busy.

Anyway i would love to hear your reviews - sepecially on layout and colours.

Thanks

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

It's a very busy homepage, but it is packed full of information - a good job :)

Just one suggestion though - please check the site on Firefox 3.5. I'm using it on Ubuntu and the homepage has quite a few bugs - content over-flowing, boxes over-lapping etc. I can imagine what the site is meant to look like so I'm going on the image in my head, but it is quite buggy for FF3.5 (at least in Ubuntu). So it definitely needs fixing in that respect since FF 3.5 is quite popular :)

But I quite like it. There's no way of packing so much information on a page without make it look a bit busy. I think you've handled it nicely. Just fix those bugs up and it'll be even better ;)

I have seen it in Firefox, It looks quite well. You have designed and maintained it very well. the frames and boxes are not overlapping in Firefox as I see. They re perfectly in place, and looks perfect.

i'm using firefox 3.5.2 and there are no overlapping boxes, etc. or overflowing content. it looks very professional and polished, though i agree with tristan that it is too cluttered and busy. i don't have time right now to take an in-depth look, so this is just my impression of the first-page design. i'll try to take a closer look tomorrow. your description of what you're trying to do sounds very impressive.

Thanks for the comments guys - i really do appreciate them. The problem i face is that there is so much data to show and i want to do it in a way that doesn't confuse or put visitors off. I'll get there eventually.

thanks again.

G'day Staff jam, i am a futures and commodities trader, as well as a contributor (not often) for Seeking Alpha.com. Yes i agree that there is a lot going on on the front page, maybe tone it down a notch if possible? That's only my opinion though, some people like a lot going on when trading however.

Now, i also think you need one advertisement, just one banner, maybe two at most targeting trading platforms (good commissions?) or targeted google banners, forget normal AdSense, not for this site IMO. Im thinking oil options, oil ETF's, so options express banner for example

I like your idea for contributors, i know a few who could help you, Chris Vermeulen better known as the gold and oil guy Gold Newsletter -Chris Vermeulen Gold, Silver, Oil, Gas-Simply Profits for example off the top of my head.

I would suggest you join up at Seeking Alpha and promote the site by contributing a daily or weekly article, and this way you will gain several contributors yourself.

One thing i suggest you DONT do is allow comments such as those on Seeking Alpha, as it promotes complete nut jobs and spammers.

I don't have time to fully look over your site ATM, but i will over the next day or so, and i will give you some more feedback. Needless to say all up i really like it, good luck with it.

Oh, i almost forgot, a great idea is to take a snippet of two or three contributed articles and send out in an email, daily at the roughly same time each day, with links to yor site and full article/s. I suggest you NOT do this more than once a day, because i know several sites i subscribe to that send 2, 3, even 5 or 6 updates a day, thats WAY too much IMO, i just like one concise report a day, in fact the more they send the less i read. Hope this helps.

Maxaues - Thanks for your advice and review, it is very helpful.
I've just checked seekingalpha out and WOW - that site publishes hundreds of "good" articles a day.
Thanks for the Chris vermeulin tip - if you know of any other writers who would like to contribute please let me know.
I was just going to seed it with my own stuff for the first month whilst traffic builds to over 1000 uniques a day. we're 9 days in and at 400 a day, so steady progress, but a lot more to do.

I'd be happy to have a more indepth discussion about your opinions if you have the time

Thanks again

I love how the site is well managed [ Lots of articles/contents on it ]

janine - thanks for your review. I'm not too sure what you mean by widen the width - is that of the articles space or the whole site?
