O.k, only been here a few days. I'm the clueless guy who jumped right in and bought about 10 domains probably worth zero. Now I've been browseing around alot of forums/websites etc reading alot of different articles. I still have alot to learn. But it seems to me that alot of these domainers, you guys and gals, are actually buying and selling to each other. I keep looking at these domain auctions and I cant help but notice there are a ton of domains for sale or up for auction. And alot of these domains like on godaddy, are asking some pretty high numbers. How do the owners of such domains figure they are worth that much? And why in most cases are there no bids? If domains are in such high demand you'd think there be some kind of offers. Yes, I really am clueless :)

Thanks,
Rob.........

The price is in the eye of the beholder.

Plus alot of people really could care less if there domain sells now or 5 years from now so they put whatever the heck price they want.

Then there are those who buy a domain just to put a high price on it and see if it sells.

There are I'm sure a thousand different reason that people over price DNs.

And who wants to bid on an over priced domain name?
Just stick to down-to-earth pricing. Ask around too.

Maybe take what you think it's worth and take a quarter of that and you might get a bid.

So the real deal in this domain game is to find, reg good names for cheap if possible. Then resell them for profit. O.k, I can dig that. But it just seems to me that everything thats out there worth anything is taken already. I know I'm way late for this game, but I kinda like it. Sorta addicting if you ask me.

Typing in anything that comes to mind into the instant domain search and seeing if its available. In most cases they are not. But I dont want to buy other peoples headaches either. So what to do in all this? Please advise a bit more. I havent even started looking into dropped names and such. Just trying to study the basics for now. Basically, I want to get rich overnight, is that possible :sold: :hehe:

I'm really just amazed at all the names I put in to see its availability, AEIOU was even taken. That dentist lady has just about every nano technology .com there is. She looking into the future or what? Who's really running this whole domain game anyway? I know the rich keep getting richer, but theres gotta be some slack somewhere.

I think the domain name game is a bit of a gamble/investment...more of a gamble for newbies, more of an investment for well versed buyers.

There are many different types of players too.

I am what I like to call a "DNdaddy" or "DNmomma" for you ladies. I only register new un-reg'd names. I don't buy, swap, or watch the drop list. I like to be creative and know that I created that name, 100% original DNdaddy doings:)

GreenGambler, I think I'm a little like yourself. Only been doing this a few days but I enjoy the creativity involved with coming up with names. Have you been successful at all and what kind of research do you do? Dont need any specifics, just like to get some kind of idea.

Primavera Yeah, thats pretty amazing. Seems like theres alot of people just reging names just because there available. Almost as if there paronoid there wont be anything left. Hence the reason theres probably not going to be anything left after too long.

Clueless....

Here is a GR8 Thread for you to subscribe to or just to read on how other domainers here at NP (NamePros) find potential end users (buyers) for their domains:

http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/68798-how-to-find-potential-end-users.html

Myself personally...here is what I have done (successfully) to sell my domains in the past (now I just purchase as an investment/tax purposes)...

Quick Summary:
I research an industry for potential "end users" then I "namespin" and puruse the net/boards for GR8 names (only..no junk names) then I reg them or purchase them then I contact the owner/decision maker of the company directly...by email always...
using a "script"...no I do not share it (sorry ...my partner and I have an agreement) ...offering the Domain...usually I have the domain TM'ed (not always) but it is always licensed...by me...1st...(it's a numbers game ...you have to "fish" before you get a bite..we ALWAYS get a bite)...then we (the fun part) negotiate...and then we SELL THE DOMAIN to the targeted industry...well ...I used to ...had an Aneurysm several years ago and am in the "healing process" now ...buying now will start up again next year...getting my "inventory" back up...

Hope that helped you...takes alot of research ....time...and the it is most definetely NOT a quote "get rich overnight" sorry had to lol on that one... that was funny...

YOU CAN MAKE SOME CASH IN THIS BUSINESS THOUGH!!!

Stick with it....read that thread....it takes $$$ to make $$$....

OldRatRacer, could you give me an example of one you already went through that process with? You said " I research an industry for potential "end users" then I "namespin" and puruse the net/boards for GR8 names.

What kinds of industries? Like penny stocks? Where do you look? "Namespin", big??? mark there.

Example here would probably knock the less off my clue :hehe:

Thanks,
Rob.........

Ok Rob...going back a little..for you..others prob don't want to know this...

back in 2000/2003 I reasearched the "Job/Employment" mkt... and Regged several domains and purchased several more (total cost to myself and my partner was U.S. $15k) to Namespinn we used several sources....newspapers...google...business journals...whois.sc...tradejournals...msn news...yahoo news...etc..

Just to name 2 of the Domains that was regged/bought then sold: DFWJobsearch.com (regged then sold) and JobCenter.com (bought then sold)

Total profit cannot be disclosed due to NDA. High figure to be sure...more than covered our investment...

You could do this on a "smaller" scale....to start..

Target small business in your local area...or large cities....that "fit a category"
