Hi Guys

I'm looking for your thoughts on BritishButter .com

British Butter is quite a popular search term and the keywords have quite a good PPC value, This domain also follows the usually pretty saleable strategy of 'geo' domain and common household item or marketable product/service, plus its a bold two word statement which describes the product instantly before users even hit the homepage. However I'm looking to sell this to a certain end user.

I don't know how many on here are from the UK but here in Britain there is a huge growing trend for consumers to buy organic and more importantly to buy 'British' as the current British farming market is struggling and we are all being encouraged to support British business and econonmy.

There is only one major producer of authentic British Butter in the UK (there are plenty of brands here but unbelievably to me, most are produced abroad!) and of course their marketing and advertising is pretty much always based on being a 'British brand' and a 'British Butter'. Sure there are plenty of independant, cottage industry types who are seeing huge growth year on year playing to the British, Organic, Local party line in all types of food branding and these too would make a great end user for a domain like this.

A google search of British Butter shows that the major producer is at the top of the search results - I'm thinking a domain like this could be pretty valuable to them either as:

A) A direct marketing campaign, TV Ads etc stressing the 'British Butter' factor and using this domaint to point all traffic towards their main domain homepage or perhaps keeping it as an 'informative' sub domain with links to their homepage and produce.

B) An insurance policy - as these smaller companies and cottage industry firms keep growing it would make sense for one of them to register BritishButter.com, putting them high on the google search results and milking (no pun intended) traffic from the big producer I keep referring to. If the big producer buys BritishButter.com then it prevents the smaller companies perhaps cashing in on their biggest selling point and keeps traffic and consumers on their side.

These are my ideas in theory, of course if I cant sell the the large producer then there could well be value in selling the domain to one of the up-and-coming british butter producers, so there are definitely options here.

However I think I might be building a bit of a pipedream here so please bring me back down to earth and pick holes in my idea and give me some constructive criticism! I'm pretty concerned that to my knowledge this domain hasn't been registered before and I'm left wondering why? I would be extremely grateful for your opinions!

Thanks Guys

Gavin

This is tricky. You've got a nice domain in an industry that struggles. If I put myself in the shoes of a farmer who wants to make the ends meet and from the stand point of a startup or small producer, I'd say that spending top dollar for a domain name is on the back of my priority list. If I'm oriented into online marketing I'll get a brandable business domain for a reg fee, something like FattyButter.co.uk or OrganicCoronary.co.uk (j/k).

From a marketer's stand point, I know the fact that when you're facing with financial difficulties, the only thing you don't want to cut is marketing, and not just that, you need to triple your marketing budget to bounce back in the black, but 80% of the business owners don't understand this.

If that were my domain I'd built in into a portal regarding organic, healthy, local good food, with all the hipster gimmicks. Nice clean, minimal but rural and cozy looking site, maybe with a touch of vintage effects, warm and cuddly approach in content writing, lots of Social engagement, lots of info on how to make your own butter, how to grow your own veggies in your apartment, what organic fairs are going on and so on so forth. You could monetize that site in many ways, and maybe you'll get a real big dollar offer on it.

Great reply Ursuake! Some great ideas!

I'm from a blogging background originally so I know a fair amount about SEO and Monetization and I also know the effort it takes to generate even a small amount of income, its a bunch of hardwork and in all honesty I just do not have the time to monetize all of my domains! (some of the domains I've had appraised on here have been suggested good for development)

Basically I'm hoping to me of a flipper/investor and try to turn a quick, moderate profit which in itself is an enormous task without the right knowhow etc. I'm not looking for mega bucks, just a nice little extra income.

A genuine question to those of you out there, what seperates a good 'develpment' domain from a plain and simple good flip domain?

Also, any other ideas how I can turn a profit with this domain would be very welcome, I appreciate everybodies time on here - since lurking (for quite a while) and joining this month I have learnt a vast amount about domaining that just isn't available anywhere else on the net, so thanks!

Also, for what its worth I also own BritishDairy.com which fits in the same circumstances that Ursuake mentions above, although there are considerably more end users for this IMHO.
