Appraisal for 123.us & abc.us

Hi DotUsDomains,

This appraisal is for 123.us & abc.us

From time to time I will do appraisals on here for domain names and wanted to give you my thoughts on this name.

I appraise on 4 factors,

1.) TLD Value
2.) Name Value
3.) Sales Comparison Charts
4.) SEO & Adwords Potential

I will also give you a reseller appraisal value and END user appraisal value in the form of $Amount + $XXX.

1.) TLD Value

TLD (Meaning your extention, .com, .net, .org, etc...) plays a very important role in the value of your domain name. I use a site reference listed below to help me get an idea of the value the TLD plays in your domain names.

http://3character.com/priceguide.html

It states that LLL.us domain names sell for currently $30 on average and that NNN.us domain names sell for currently $80 on average.

Part of TLD value also comes in the current registrations for the other TLD's of the word. After all a domain is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

If someone is willing to pay more money for the expensive TLD's they will probably be willing to pay good money for your better TLD. What I do is I add value of the cost to register the domain name by half for every registration that is done for the domain name under you in the TLD ladder. This gives a good estimation in my experience of a base value that it has in terms of just the current market that is already interested in that name for reselling purposes.

I use the 3character.com price guide for the TLD ladder, because LLL's are unbiased names and if the only difference is price, then it gives the idea of the true value the TLD has.

Without a doubt I looked on domainsite.com and found that almost every TLD for that domain name was taken for both of those names.

In particular, some things to note are the following. Below is a list of particular domain names that were registered and their yearly fees to keep them.

abc.jobs Taken $99.99
abc.at Taken $170
abc.mx Taken $54.95
abc.io Taken $99
abc.it Taken $99
abc.ac Taken $99
abc.ag Taken $89
abc.am Taken $99
abc.sh Taken $99
abc.sc Taken $85
abc.mn Taken $55

There were a few domains that were still free, but there were no single TLD extensions free which is a very good sign.

abc.hu.com Available $39.99
abc.jpn.com Available $29.99
abc.kr.com Available $29.99
abc.no.com Available $39.99
abc.qc.com Available $29.99
abc.ru.com Available $39.99

Everything else came to a total of about $200~

In total you have $1000 of TLD registrations for this domain name under you in the TLD ladder, that means you have a minimum of $500 of value just there!

3-Letter .com - $4550 (+ $50 since November 15, 2010 report) (See Related Commentary on Front Page)
3-Letter .net - $400 (Unchanged)
3-Letter .org - $195 (Unchanged)
3-Letter .info - $40 (Unchanged)
3-Letter .biz - $20 (Unchanged)
3-Letter .us - $30 (Unchanged)
3-Letter .mobi - Reg Fee (Unchanged)

3-Number .com - $9500 (Unchanged)
3-Number .net - $975 (Unchanged)
3-Number .org - $370 (Unchanged)
3-Number .info - $150 (Unchanged)
3-Number .biz - $70 (Unchanged)
3-Number .us - $80 (Unchanged) (Note: These are the rarest of the NNN Domains, as the registry holds a high percentage of NNN.us names)
3-Number .mobi - $100 (Unchanged)

With all this in mind I added $30 extra for the LLL & $80 for the NNN.

This tells us that abc.us is worth at a minimum of $530, and that 123.us is worth at a minimum of $580. Of course it's worth more then that but this is just the starting point. These names are very easy to remember and memorable/brandable & probably very easy to sell to someone.

If you are interested in how the TLD ladder continues for other extensions what you do is look up the amount of actual websites that are being used for those TLD's. The more being used with that TLD, the more likely it's going to be valuable, but do keep in mind that some extensions cost more money per year or have strict rules to keep registrations and this can adversely affect it's value.

2.) Name Value

The name is everything when it comes to domain names. Many factors come into play.

1.) Domain Name Length
2.) Character Quality (Not using characters like Q,Z,X,Y)
3.) Pronounceable Words

1.) Domain Name Length

If your domain name is more then 8 characters it tends to not be as valuable since it's difficult to type in and remember for clients that would use it for business purposes.

Since yours is 3 characters long that obviously makes it valuable so I won't go into this further.

2.)Character Quality

This is taken straight from 3character.com.

The quality of the letter composition can play a significant role in determining 3-letter valuations. General concensus states that the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T are considered premium letters. Other lesser high quality letters include: J, K, U, V, W. Lower quality letters include: Q, X, Y, Z. Domains selling for less than the above figures would represent a strong buy in today's market. Premium letter only domains tend to fetch a 500% to 600% premium (or more) over the Minimum Wholesale Price. Mixed letter quality domains have valuations somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.

You have the best numbers and best characters you could possibly have in my opinion as far as character quality is concerned. The only thing better is like aaa.us or all the same letters, but abc is quite possibly even better then those since it's so commonly used.

3.) Pronounceable Words

Not much to say here, your domains are great for remembering. I give it a good rating here.

3.) Sales Comparison Charts

I site I like to use is dnsaleprice.com for sales comparables.

I was purposely ignoring some .com sales comparables since you are using a ccTLD and the valuations would be considerably less for the .US version of the similar keywords. I say this based on the difference in a LLL.com versus a LLL.us.

Some sales comparables I found were...

Abc.hn $160 Sep 09 Sedo Auction
ABC.biz $1,403 Jul 09 Sedo
AbcJuegos.es $781 Oct 07 Sedo

123.me $2,648 Oct 09 Sedo
123.lc $300 Sep 09 Sedo
123.cc $5,000 Apr 09 Sedo
123.es $13,650 Mar 09 Sedo
123.in $7,500 Aug 07 Sedo
123.info $14,000 Jul 07 Sedo
123.es $692 Dec 06 Sedo

123Dsl.de $1,008 Mar 09 Sedo
123Video fr $2,085 Dec 08 Sedo

Looks to me that 123 is a very valuable keyword and 'abc' is not so much as so. I think part of the reason abc might not be selling as much is because of the corporation ABC, which is a major TV station.

abc.biz is very close in value to the TLD for .US. Which at this time leads me to believe the END user value might be close to that. Probably LOW $XXXX.

123 however has MID $XXXX Figures for it's sales. It's for sure a valuable keyword to have picked up without a doubt.

4.) SEO & Adwords Potential

These names have great SEO & Adwords potential. According to the Google Keyword Tool.

Having the domain name of the keyword you want to target greatly increases your chance of ranking higher for that keyword. Ranking higher means you get a bigger percentage of the traffic that the keyword yields. This is a big reason why a lot of these domain names have any value to begin with.

[abc] in exact match gets 3,350,000 searches every month. $2.63 is what people are paying for every click on that keyword.

[123] in exact match gets 3,350,000 searches every month as well, but is $1.57 per click.

The company I run is iTechware Inc. (http://itechware.com) and it's a Google Certified Partner. Part of what I do is find out how much keywords cost for advertisers.

The usual click through rate is 2-3%, to be safe lets say you can get 2% of the global traffic on those keywords.

That would be, 67,000 clicks (this is shared between many advertisers however, so the amount of clicks one could realistically get if they were going full blast would be 6700 (or 10%).

6700 X $2.63 is about $17,621~
6700 X $1.57 is about $10,519~

That is how much monthly the advertiser in position #1 is spending most likely on those keywords alone.

If one could get organically get to the top of these search engines with the help of the domain they could save literally 10's of thousands of dollars.

Having the domain name is not a sure-fire bet you will get to the top, you still have to know what you are doing as far as link building and search engine optimization is concerned, but it greatly helps. I usually say whatever the value of that keyword would be in Adwords for someone, they would probably pay at least half that if it would increase there chances in the ranking.

Unfortunately your domain name is a ccTLD, this means that for SEO purposes it does not work as well as .com, .net, .org or .info. The .US TLD does work very well for united states traffic though and will rank right after .info from my understanding. There is many articles on the topic of TLD's and how it effects SEO. In fact below is one the best articles I've ever read that is very accurate.

http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors

In particular the part about domain names is here.

Keyword Use in the Root Domain Name (e.g. keyword.com)
60% high importance

http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors#ranking-factors

Look in the On-Page Ranking Factors, it's #3 in terms of ranking importance.

For this section it's kind of a gamble to try and target these high and keywords, but given the potential reward, it probably adds at least Mid $XXX or High $XXX of potential reseller value for either domain name if sold properly. End User wise for a user looking to buy it with this purpose in mind it might add low $XXXX of value to either domain name.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the values I have come up with our below

Key
LOW<3
MID>3 but <6
HIGH>6

ABC.US
Reseller Value: $530 + Low $XXX
End User Possibilities: $530 + Low $XXXX

123.US
Reseller Value: $580 + Low $XXXX
End User Possibilities: $580 + Mid $XXXX

I believe these are very valuable domain names and should not be sold for less then the reseller prices. You should be able to net a rather good profit assuming you bought it near the reseller prices or lower.

Hope this helps!

Hi all,

Recently aquired these 2 names.

What value do you place on these 2 ?

Abc.us

123.us

Thanks for your time,
Stevie.

Very nice, mid $xxxx reseller.End user-well you know!

That said I have some nice .us that I cannot move at any reasonable price.

Should be a much better market than it is.

I am not going to go into the detail of x11joex11's appraisal, but both are excellent domains as far as branding goes with plenty of potential end users.

ABC.biz sold for $1,403 on SEDO in July 2009. The extensions are similar, but .US has a much more active resale market.

Similar "123" sales -

123 me $2,648 Oct 09 Sedo
123 cc $5,000 Apr 09 Sedo
123 es $13,650 Mar 09 Sedo
123 in $7,500 Aug 07 Sedo
123 info $14,000 Jul 07 Sedo

Reseller wise they are both in the $X,XXX range. I think "123" has slightly more reseller value as it is arguably the best NNN.us

.us are not so popular among domainers outside the United States.
I would appraise each of the domains at mid- high $xx,xxx

IMO you're looking at mid-$$$$+ end user. Low five figures would not surprise me, these are some of the very best LLL/CCC if not the best.

both are nice domains. I estimate the resell value to end users around high $x,xxx, if you are lucky you get $xx,xxxx

I'm going to jump on the mid-xxxx (end user) bandwagon. They're very nice names for anyone in the US where those combos are relevant to their business. There are lots of "abc" and "123" businesses, it shouldn't be difficult to find potential buyers.

The search and adwords stats alone are a bit misleading in this case because they don't take search intent into account. These would be almost entirely company-specific searches, and it looks like the vast majority are looking for the media network or the greeting card company. If you don't deliver what the searcher is looking for, that traffic would translate to a quick click of the "back" button, regardless whether it's from Adwords or the organic SERPS.

But again, if your business is ABC Something or if you're building a brand on one of those combos, very nice domains.

abc.com might be a good end user for abc.us

I am in no position to appraise anything at this stage of my being involved with domaining, but I did want to point out that in some states all liquor stores are required to be called ABC. I believe it stands for Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Could be some use from this fact. Anyway, congratulations on the pick ups, nice names.

ABC.us is more valuable than 123.us IMO. I've still never had success selling any NNN to an end user. ABC.us is worth at least $2k, probably closer in the $3-5k range. This domain also has a possibility for a very high sale price for the right buyer (low xx,xxx range), but again, I believe a 3-5k sale is more probable. 123.us I'd say is worth $500 on the low end, and probably closer to $750-1,250. To the right buyer, possibly up to 5k.
