Hi,

I'm talking about the new portable console by Nintendo, the 'Nintendo 3DS' that will be released on February 26 in Japan, on March 25 in Europe and on March 27 in the North America.

This console will be the replacement of the best selling 'Nintendo DS' portable console and is expected to have a huge success too.

In Google Adwords Keyword tool we can see that "DS games" has 1M global searches and 368,000 only in the US.

Do you think like me that the best of the 4 domains proposed are 3DSgames.com and 3DSblog.com?

Thank you!

I believe nintendo have trademarked "3DS", I could be wrong though, I did read it in an article somewhere

I think adding "games" and "console" to 3DS is like poking a stick at a caged tiger

Just checked on Trademarkia.com and i didn't find no TM for 3DS. I only see value if it's developed.

Sorry I'm newbie in this forum but have a little experience in spanish domains. I can't understand where is the problem if "3DS" is not a trademark, I knew "Nintendo 3DS" was, I am not talking about that. There are plenty of websites with "DS" and "3DS" in their domain names and I cannot imagine Nintendo suing so many webmasters.

I see all opinions are very negative. Of course these domains would be used to sell Nintendo games or promote their products, so I could only benefit them, so can you tell me why is it risky to own these domains? And why their value is zero if lots of people will search "3DS games" as they do now with "DS games"?

Thank you again :)

Well thats a bit like saying that millions of people go shoplifting and only a few of them get caught. You could spend some time reading the legal thread here at Namepros and also research Trademark laws on various websites. It won't take you long to get a basic understanding of how it all works.
Good luck with future registrations.

exsedo hit the nail on the head with his comments

Sometimes its about doing the right thing, thats all..just because thousands of people do it, doesn't make it right?? Why risk it with average names, its just not worth it imo

Read through the legal section as suggested above and you will see what we mean

Good luck

Nintendo is fairly chill as long as your not making money off thier backs. If you make a review site or something I doubt they would come after you.

Thank you DomainOutlow, your opinion seems the most reasonable.

mektgn, reasonable, maybe, but truthful...not so much

The domains are parked so thats admitting you are trying to profit from parking revenue, this is not hard to understand people

Have a read through here...

No more posts from me, if you dont get after reading that legal section, then I give up

If Nintendo want to come after you for Cybersquatting, as Gilescoley says, you have already proved their case for them.
Best advice is to stay away from all Tm domains or face the possible consequences.

Don't rely solely on our opinions, do your own DD, as the implications and consequences can be dire.

Trademarked domains have zero resale value, just because they can be taken away at any time.

On the flipside, they have plenty of value if you plan on developing them yourself. In the videogames industry, so long as you're not badmouthing the company who's trademark is in your domain, it's extremely unlikely that they'll care.

If you search "<insert game here> forum" on google, you'll ultimately end up with the first page being filled up with <insert game here>forum.com, <insert game here>forums.net, <insert game here>boards.info, etc. In many cases, these sites even outrank the official forums of the game, but the companies do not care.

I am not aware of a single case where a videogame company has come after a site like this. The chances that Nintendo would bother to come after a game review site that you put up on the 3dsgames.com domain are probably about equivalent to the chances that the world will be destroyed by aliens within the next year and render all of our domains useless anyway.

Videogame companies want their name out there on the internet as much as humanly possible. They want people to create facebook pages using their product names. They want people to make youtube videos using footage from their games. And they certainly want people to build websites that promote their games.

Nonetheless, because the typical viewpoint is that of the people you've seen in this thread, there's no resale value in these names. Develop them instead.

I wonder why 3DS is not trademarked in the US?

Thanks a lot, FreeBaGel :)

It was my first post in this forum and I didn't expect to be treated virtually as a thief and even a criminal because I had these domains parked! :S

Your advice is full of common sense. I will try to develop something, my only problem is that English is not my native language and I can't make a blog or an affiliate store. But I'll go into that direction.

I think these are domains good to monetize in the next years and for this reason I don't believe that their value is zero or even zero - 100,000.
