Pixel.ca was sold at auction recently for $1750.00 and I was kind of annoyed I did not see it because I would have bid way higher than that.

I decided to punch it into the address bar today and this is what I saw....

In my opinion there are some real issues with this because it gives the false sense to whoever buys an address that it's theirs to keep for as long as they pay. Personally I think someone will end up buying this domain and then the current owner will have to wait out the year terms with the email clients.

Or maybe he plans to really turn this into a service and I scratch my head at that because it limits any resale potential.

In the real world I don't think there are a ton of people scrambling to get a [email protected] email address so this whole thing puzzles me a bit.

Personally I would have outbid most everyone on this domain if I would have had the opportunity to do so. I paid 5k for protocol(dot)ca which is not as good but I actually developed it. The pixel domain has more potential than my domain but using it in the way he is doing is going to tie it up in limbo until contracts run out.

I guess I am ranting a bit here because I did not get the domain so jealousy does rear its ugly head a bit :xf.laugh: :xf.laugh:. I'm a huge google pixel fan and this would have been a conquest domain for me.

Footnote...

Here is an actual picture of the Pixel devices I use when I travel....

Anyways.... all in good clean fun, wishing I was the lucky recipient but I do wish the new owner of this powerhouse domain all the best. (y) (y) (y)

Who knows, someone at Google probably identified "DIY Crafts" as a heavy search term and figured it doesn't hurt to have all your bases covered.

I think they want to be the only ones offering hand-knitted wool covers for Pixel phones.

Or maybe wigs you can hide your phone in, or charge it there?

With Google anything is possible.

But yes the fine print would be pretty important for anyone renting one of these, just what service, privacy, and continuity would be offered. Wouldn't touch it myself for email.
Agree, it's a nightmare waiting to happen for email clients, many of whom likely won't realize the inevitability of losing their accounts/addresses.

$950/yr for an email address? Is that for real?

I doubt it, as any valid TM has to be in use, and I haven't seen Google advertising an online Pixel Email Service. They would only come after someone if they released a Pixel personal electronic device.
Agreed. Only strengthens my point ;)
Also, my point was just a caveat as I'd not bothered to perform a full research on this aspect and topic

What if you own Pixel<keyword> dot com domains for dozen+ years and are holding them / for sale? Can they come after them?

The pixel.ca site is down now. I guess the owner changed their mind about selling email addresses.

Works without www and only without https

Does not inspire confidence in secure email that way though.

Still shows here as a live site

Oh I see. Thanks for the tip! Now their price is only $95 so it looks like it went down by a power of ten. Interesting site.

Seems to depend on the name and length of time - look at this:

[email protected] is a premium name and costs either $20.00 a month, or $200.00 a year.

also offers 5 years for $1000 or 10 years for $2000, not clear if USD or Canadian.

And the games continue......

Now he is giving away the user name addresses

I don't know if you can guess by now but he has no intention of selling any addresses, that is why he is now doing his best to scare away any potential clients. It is very obvious at this point that he is trying to make it look like a legitimate site so he does not run into any issues.

That's hilarious, and like I said, this is yet another UDRP shelter that many use, but no one usually goes so far as to "offer" a service and then try to dissuade buyers from using it.

Maybe he got a couple of fishing inquiries as to buying an email address?
