I don't really like commoditychannel.tv all that much, it just doesn't crank my truck. The others, though, I like. I like EarthChannel.tv as an environmental related article/show channel. Plus, the home school industry is huje, so that domain is good, as well.

By al means, protect your investment by picking up the "domain"tv.com, as well, heh. Probably not what bob was implying, though.

I try not to be overly critical, but I personally hate ____channel.tv domains.... I'll explain.

Remember...just mho. :)

I know many of you own ___channel.tv domains and aren't going to agree with my post, but since it was asked...

It's limiting. When television networks adopted a "channel" it was a destination. "Turn to channel 4". You would tune the dial to the "4" position. After cable, the channels became relative, they wouldn't corrospond with the networks. Locally, Channel 2 Action News is found on my cable box channel 3. 11alive is channel 6 and so on. I'm seeing networks phase out their "channel" and promoting their network, WB36 is now "The CW".

Incorporating the term "channel" into a domain seems pointless with few specific exceptions:

If you're an existing conventional "channel" and have branded your name around a number, e.g. channel2.tv, ch3.tv, etc...

.tv=channel
Ones' domain functions in this same way. Adding "channel" to a .tv just seems like a duplication... to me, .tv screams "channel".

In the coming years, one would expect domains such as Finance.tv to be a (live streaming or pre-recorded) "channel" about financial related material. Financechannel.tv sounds like Finance channel.channel. :imho:

I think aaamaretto makes some very good points. I do not own any "channel TV domains. I do not think I would have sold FantasySports.TV as fast as I did if it was FantasySportsChannel.TV in fact I do not think it would have sold at all.

Isn't funny right after I posted my comments, I see that BusinessChannel.TV sold for $10,000

I also agree a lot with what aaamereto has said, but channel.tv can be used for the opposite way as well. Meaning if there is an online TV Channel ie. The History Channel, The Movie Channel, etc... Then they would want the extension HistoryChannel.tv as well for an online version of their TV Channel. Did that make sense? :)

aaamereto's comments are valid, if there is only one individual or company in the entire world interested in that niche. If only one company wants to own a poker '.tv' domain, then yes, they will acquire poker.tv, whatever that cost may be, and dominate the market.

However, consider that five thousand companies may want a piece of the online poker market. Or ten thousand.

There are many alternatives that are much, much worse that will be registered - or purchased from a domainer - than PokerChannel.tv .

Given the fifty years of history with the term 'channel', the intuitive association with that term and a product, I don't look for it to disappear from the common tongue. Especially, as Century points out, that many cable or satellite channels will want a domain that emulates their television presence.

My point is, a 'channel' domain may not work for every single niche - BoisenberryChannel.tv doesn't have much of a future, say - but IMO, in niches where there is fierce competition for positioning, 'channel' domains should hold their own weight.

Abstaining from this discussion due to a conflict of interest :)

I agree with you. People might as well start registering whateveryouwantTV.tv domains as it's almost as redundant as registering a whateveryouwantchannel.tv domain except it's shorter and just as pointless.
