I'm thinking about the possibility of selling www.pgr3.com, an Unofficial Project Gotham Racing 3 fansite. I have received clearence from Microsoft regarding running a fansite at the domain, as long as it is non-profit :) The official site is at www.projectgothamracing3.com, so my site gets lots of type-ins due to many people assuminging that the official site is at PGR3.com since it's so much shorter. Registered in 2004, apparentely before Microsoft thought of registering it. Doesn't expire until 2007.

- Result #4 of 664,000 in Google for "pgr3" (no SEO submission or anything)
- Alexa rank for the past week: 166,624
- 200+ unique visitors per day with no advertising except for a little through word-of-mouth

Whenever I tell people that I own the site, they're like, "PGR3.com? No way." So yes, it is a popular domain (PGR3 is the very common abreviation for the game).

If I were to sell this site, I would include www.PGRforums.com, the forums I use for the previous site. Since this is a seperate domain, ads are allowed to be displayed.

- Result #3 of 779,000 in Google for "pgr forums" (again, no SEO)
- Alexa rank for the past week: 97,014!
- Around 100 unique visits per day
- 30+ REAL members
- 300+ posts

Also the package would include the PR5 domain www.ProjectGR3.com, which is listed #2 of 514,000 in Yahoo for "pgr3"!

------------

How much do you think I could get for the entire package?

Thanks for any input!

given all the stuff w/Microsoft and the fact you can sell links for profit I'd have to say mid $XXX at the most....

Low to low-mid $xxx range.

I've had high $XXX offers on the domain alone.

And as I said, Microsoft is A-OK with everything as long as I don't have ads. That said, many of the visitors go to the forums, where ads can be displayed.

The forums alone are worth $XXX seeing as that they are pretty active (I just put the forums up recently) and there are hardly any other PGR forums for fans to visit. This package would allow for the buyer to have a sort of "monopoly" of the PGR online world, which is great because PGR is likely the most popular racing game at the moment. Then when PGR4 is released, the owner would already have a huge fan base available to them, meaning that they could have a popular site with little work.

Thanks for the input so far!

I think the key here is you have MS's blessing for a non-profit fansite. This could be gold if you play it right. A link to you from Microsoft would be a killer. Plus, they said "non-profit"...presumably you can still make money to pay for the "costs" - server, bandwidth, your time in running it etc etc.

I think this could be a brilliant opportunity but you'll need to work fast - or at least make it work before the PGR4 arrives. The key is links and traffic...get that up then maybe look to sell.

Good luck

Thanks! I actually did contact Bizarre Creations, and the person I talked to said:

I’m sure we can give you a link on our site, but I doubt that Microsoft will link to something unofficial on theirs. I’ll ask them, but I wouldn’t hold out much hope, as they can’t ensure that they’ll approve of the content on yours… ;)

Even a link from Bizarre Creations would be awesome.
