whats the current demand on personal names or surnames? anybody with some experiences?
the more common ones who probably be on the high priced end but what about less familar ones?


eg adeline, richards,bobby, etc

Generally, very good investments ... starting in the ".COM" and working your way down the hierarchy, IMHO.
Let's all do a little test ... everyone check for their last (sur)names (first names, too ... which are even more in demand) when they come across this thread. All taken? :talk:

Good idea... Axilant.com is taken (i made this name up, but when i was going to buy axilant.com i guess its a software place) And then Cody.com was taken a few years ago... Someone should buy jackoisafago.com.... and make a website making fun of mickel jackson.... (i dont have the money or i would)

People don't pay much for their names. I offered $50 to the guy who owned my name but he didn't want to sell.. I did buy my best friend's name DavidNeely.com to give to him, but he didn't want it. So, I put a sign on the site that said it was for sale for $20 and about 3 weeks later a David Neely in Australia bought it for $20 by PayPal. If you sell them dirt cheap people will buy them. They receive a fair amount of traffic too because people type in their name to see what's there. In general though, most people won't want to buy their name unless they can throw $20 at it and it's easy to manage.

I managed to pick up my last name, Maysonet.com, several weeks ago. It was owned by NameVerse.com and they were trying to sell it for $299 for a few years now. On their website, they had the option to place an offer ($100 minimum), which I did ($100), and a day later they contacted me and agreed to do the deal.

It's entirely worth it in my opinion because now I have a domain name I'll probably keep for the rest of my life, and it's great for setting up email addresses and personal sites, which I plan to do in the future (ex. adam.maysonet.com). Plus, my wife and I are having our first child in a few months and this would be something great for him to have.

This is the exact reason why I'd pay at least $100-$200 for my last name as a dot com (or even a dot net).

i would better buy myname.name, rather than buying a .ws extension or .nu, or .de, if the .com,.net or .org extension of my name is taken.

Would anyone like to rank the main TLDs with respect to desirability for surnames?

I would say:

.com
.org
.net
.name
.biz
.info

The only reason I rank .name so low is because it is generally easier to get than .org and .net.

That may be true for less common names. But anything in the top few thousand surnames are all reserved by the registry, simply because the original .name registrations were in the firstname.lastname.name format.

Which makes the common surname.name not just difficult to obtain, but actually impossible.
