Paypal Mass Pay = No Chargebacks?

http://www.dotweekly.com/2008/04/12/is-paypal-safe-to-accept-as-a-domain-payment-i-think-so/

I've known about Mass Pay for a while now, but I didn't even think about not being able to do chargebacks. In the comments, the author says he's done an $xx,xxx payment with mass pay, but wouldn't recommend an anonymous transaction >$1000. So if you have a buyer who seems to trust you and doesn't want to pay an escrow fee, maybe this would be a good way to go. I think I'll stick with escrow for most sales, though, and leave paypal for <$100.

There has been some discussion about this, and Im not sure it isnt possible to get a chargeback if fraud was determined.

If it's paid via credit card, they can still do a charge back. I have had several in depth discussions with Paypal managers / supervisors about this and the conclusion has always been the same.

The article states that masspay cannot be completed with a credit card, must be a bank transfer. Not true?

Justin, was there another thread on NP about it? Couldn't find one.

yea i thought the same too. Its about the money source funding the masspay/paypal account(s). If its debit cards and stuff, its safer, but if its credit cards(which stolen ones are a problem), that where the problem lies

Actually, this has been some private discussion amongs a few vets. We had a conversation with paypal, and quite frankly were less than pleased with their answers.

Its my opinion that mass pay is only slightly safer, but not 100%. I have begun to use MoneyBookers and Escrow predominantly UNLESS I know who is sending me the paypal. I also refuse to accept paypal for international purchases.

Robert's correct. In fact the only way to do a chargeback for electronic delivery items, like domains, is if you use a credit card.

Is there some kind of downside to moneybookers that more people dont use it?

Exactly. Mass pay can only be done via PP balance so I can't see how a chargeback can be done. Theoretically they could do a chargeback on their PP deposit and then PP could follow up by taking the money from the Mass Payment they received.

Yes, but they can reverse the charges if its determined it was fraudulent.

I have an account. But almost disown knowing about it because I find it quite difficult to use. Especially if you are trying to calculate how much the recipient is going to receive from funds you are depositing into your account.

It does have some kind of escrow facility, but I've no real idea how it all works.

So Far, im impressed with MoneyBookers - Im using them for the first time for a transaction and will be using them more and more in the future.

Also, if they receive funds from a friend, accomplice or fraudulent card in their account and use those fund to mass pay you, the charge back will follow the trail and you will loose your payment. It does not matter if it was mass pay or not. I had this happen on a personal item I sold. I do believe we had a "trail" issue like this some while back that involved $NP.

The bottom line, you have to be very careful with PP as they are not looking to protect you, but rather themselves. Their system has many gaps that need to be addressed.

Yes I use moneybookers alsmost 2 year, its wery good, I dont understand why most people use paypal ? I thing moneybookers is better. Also who send the money (Buyer) pay the fee not seller, and be good to use in namepros has a payment.
Sorry if I do some spelling error.

So what is the point of using this method? Cost?

yup, masspay is popular because it's a fee of $1 regardless of the size of the transaction.

Really??? That is pretty nice! How can they do it so cheaply?

??err... masspay is a feature by paypal, and paypal can set the fees to be whatever they want. i'm not sure if i'm understanding you correctly.

I mean, how can they afford it? Most bank transfer fees are around $20. So how does PayPal take the money from the bank account without having to pay the $20 fee?

Is it true that Masspay can be done only on PP balance? I think I have read thread in DNF about his. It can be done by either credit card or balance.
