With all the latest hipe regarding paypal on several forums, should we be concerned about paypal. If so, should we seek alternatives?

If we need alternatives then who?

I have looked a most of the ones that I am aware of and the unfortunate thing is that I am not convinced with any alternative.

This in my opinion is a big deal.

Please, lets discuss this in detail as I know this is on the minds of many people.

Check out paypalsucks

I do not think that this is something that should be ignored.

But again, thats just me.

yea I have been having some trouble with paypal over the few days...
And what's ironic is that earlier today I got an email that says:

It has come to our attention that you may be the recipient of potentially fraudulent funds. We have initiated an investigation into this event. In the meantime, we have placed a pending reversal on the funds in question until the investigation is complete. This pending reversal will show as a deduction in your available balance. In the meantime, you are free to continue transacting using your PayPal account.

Transaction Date: May 20, 2004 19:37:46 PDT

Transaction Amount: $44.45 USD

Payor's Email: [email protected]

More than a MONTH after the transaction took place!

Also the other day I find one of my old customers issued a chargeback for some php work I did for him ($210 to be exact) and the only methods paypal gives me to "give my case" is by providing a tracker number. NO other methods.
I tried using their crummy support forum, and no luck, so isn't looking too god for me :(

This is the exact thing that concerns me. I have read countless threads and quite frankly, I want to cancel my account, that is if you can find a good way to do it!

I agree, but when do you rethink? Given all the horror stories that are posted on numerous sites?

havnt had any problems yet, but heres an alternative/ addon

www.ikobo.com

HOW IT WORKS:
the person sending you money types in there credit card number, then 4 dollars is subtracted. The remaining is put into a visa type card and mailed directly to your mailbox at your house! Now you have a few options. Take this to the ATM and get your money, or use it like a gift card.

paymate works pretty well..it takes a day or two though for payment from credit cards as anti fraud measures are in place prior to payment transfer..saves waiting months to get one of those paypal credit card fraud gunna take your money back thingies.

Theres nothing wrong with Paypal if you follow their terms.

Also try not to do business with people from certain countries...

Paypalsucks has been around for a while. If you look most of these people broke paypals terms. Even if you had a merchant account theres nothing to stop someone from doing a charge back. It comes with doing business.

Its http://www.e-gold.com not http://www.egold.com
http://www.egold.com just points to an affiliates link sometimes and sometimes it points to other sites. Also E-Gold has many problems. Security at E-Gold is bad, many people have lost their accounts with $1,000's in them... All E-Gold says is tough luck...

I think the minorities of people who have faced problems with PayPal have exaggerated the circumstances that they had to overcome. As of now, who here has been supposedly โ€œrippedโ€ by PayPal? If anyone's account was cancelled with funds in it, I'm sure PayPal had their reasons for doing so, and they would most likely explain to you the situation they were in. I know a few people here and there have had problems with PayPal, but as far as I know, the majority haven't faced such problems (I haven't).

Mail them your credit card along with an instructional booklet on how to forge your signature. ( Jokes )

Ummm, if your relying on the good ol'mailing system I don't think you'll be doing too many credit card payments. Also if your willing to put the postage one and lick the stamps I'm sure your willing enough to write up a cheque. You can also use a money order, which can be personally addressed to the buyer therefore your garenteed not to loose your money in the mail.

What you say it's true, except for the fact that the fee is 4% per transaction (not $4) with a $2 minimum. That is that if you transfer let's say $50 you only pay $2 not $4.
I think the card idea is a pretty good one, I sure like it. Quite convenient.

Me, for instance.
Check around for mass of other cases.

That's the way the world currently turns around and the majority thinks: "I'm OK and nothing happened to me, it must be something they did, so they probably deserved it."
Until it happens to you.
