Last week and into the weekend I dove into researching and setting up a couple hundred domains from my domain portfolio using Dan.com, formerly Undeveloped.com.

Most of my domain portfolio is listed via Afternic.com, and generates a minimum 2-3 sales per month, roughly $2,700 average sale price.

While Afternic.com provides a rather large footprint and exposure to potential domain buyers, it commands 20 percent commissions for each domain sale transaction.

Enter Dan.com with 9 percent commissions for each domain sale transaction.

I originally created my Dan.com account about 2 months after their “big leap forward” re-branding effort, especially after discovering potential commission savings to be realized on future domain transactions.

At 11 percent savings, loading at least 100-200 domains as a test it’s certainly worth it!

So, just what are the differences between the Dan.com and Afternic.com user experience?

Hi there! The former. I highlighted the former as progressive context to what led to deeper exploration of Dan.com and its For Sale pages. As for Afternic, it's certainly performing, yet from an aesthetics -- look, feel, seamless experience, leaves much to desire. I didn't, nor am I suggesting, move my entire portfolio. I'm only *testing* a few hundred domains (i.e., mostly hand-reg, closeouts, and a handful of expired domains purchased).

I see, but in your article you mention DAN landing pages?

My domains are in Afternic marketplace and DAN marketplace. I use my own landing pages on my own website. If you are using either Afternic (GoDaddy) or DAN landing pages then you are not selling necessarily based on their marketplaces.

Thanks for the article @Alvin Brown. I think doing a test with a portion of your portfolio is smart. While I don't think anyone doubts the impact of Afternic's huge network, and the integration with GoDaddy and associated registration networks, as well as their large network of agents to deal with prospective clients by phone and email, looking at all of the options is smart. Well established Sedo of course offer much of the same advantages.

I think originally DAN attracted people with professional landers, low commissions as you cite (even lower when you bring a lead), ease of listing, and fast transactions and payouts. Since that time they have differentiated themselves from some others through offering payment plans, recently expanded. Most recently they have invoked some changes with respect to how sellers and agents are listed.

The nice thing is we really don't have to choose (unless using a brandable exclusive marketplace) as we can list domain names multiple places with one BIN and the others Make Offer.

Thanks again for the article, and I hope you have a wonderful NamesCon 2020 right in your home town!

    Bob
