Parking earnings after domain sales

Just noticed last night, that for few UK domains, I sold recently, I've still been receiving parking earnings. Although, new owners have changed registrars, for most of domains, name servers are kept this same.

Worth to point out, all of the sales, I am referring to here, has been made at Ebay and none of parking revues was claimed at the time!

I thought I will be ethical about this and contacted couple of new owners this morning, briefly explaining situation and including information on how they can easily open up account, and park mentioned domains, therefore receive parking revues them self's. Replies I got, made me think they are not keen on this at all, if anything seems they were slightly concerned I was attempting to get back (steel domains) of from them..

Have you experienced similar situation, what's you thought's on this?

I wouldn't worry about it. After you sell it's their job to change the nameservers.

I am one of those kind of buyers. I have a backlog of domains waiting to be developed. Spending time learning about parking, setting up account(s), etc. is not on my list of things to do. I already have to many accounts and things I need/want to learn.

That's a good point, but it depends which parking services you use, as for example, I found using Bodis, all it takes is:
  1. open your account
  2. add domains
  3. Pretty much they do the rest
If you got domain with natural traffic, that is of course..

Anyway it's up to everybody to decide them self's, of course, as I mentioned I tried to be reasonable contacted them buyers and realized they are not interested. Guess I will be enjoying some extra money coming in, while it's lasts..

I think many buyers donโ€™t realize that sometimes one has to manually change nameservers after transfer. When I started buying domains, I assumed that the way registrant's details change after pushing it to a different account, the nameservers also change to the default NS at the registrar.

Then, there was this one incident where one of the domains was being hosted by the previous owner as a developed website while me being the registrant. I came to know about it after months of buying the domain. Luckily for me, it got ranked well in Google and got better at alexa rank too which helped me in reselling it without putting much effort. But it made me wonder what if the domain was used for something malicious with me being the registrant. Now, I always check the NS after buying domains.

Most people are not aware of parking sites unless they are domainers or already know about the sites. So, I think if you want them to change nameservers due to ethical reasons, telling them to change NS to the default at their registrars is better than giving them detailed info on signing up for parking sites and make them doubt your intentions as there are so many make money scams going on these days.

You could have just removed the domain from your account at the parking place. If they misuse the domain your account could be affected.

Very good point, certainly not worth to take the risk and potentially loose huge chunk of earnings + exclusivity of using, that certain parking company..
