Can I really get sued for owning a name that is linked to this music legend.....what if I never do anything with the name....

this seems to be crazy....

I understand what you are saying about TM issues….but the name was on the open market….I took it its mine...

BTW

I have a dog called Ozzy and my cats called Osborune …..Would this be ok as I have some connection to the name?

It heavily depends on usage. Most celebrities like fan sites, that are not harmful to their name. If you are running a legit fan site, you more than likely will be fine, but it is a touchy subject.

The name could have been on the open market because other domainers knew not to reg it, Or a previous owner "dumped" it for TM fears. Ebay makes people drop their ebay names, then another preson ends up regging it, so it continues

I don’t really know why the name was available…..anything else is all just pure speculation….all I do know is…. the name I picked up was created in May 2001…. And this was the first time it dropped….

So I took it... :bingo:

they could have told the previous owner to let it expire. And you came in and reg it. But this is total guessing!!!

Not all 7 years its been up has it been a forum!

It was parked with a germany parking company, and used as a redirect from what i see.

I think just becareful, and i wouldnt put any money or much time into the name. Be prepared to let it go if a lawyer writes you a letter. Goodluck

Thanks for your thoughts

It is about usage. That is the key.

If you are running a fan site that is one thing. If you are using Ozzy's image to sell Penis Enlargement Pills, that might become an issue ;)

It all comes back to if Ozzy has his name trademarked or not. If he has not you may be alright. If, by chance he has his name trademarked, you could well find yourself up shit creek without a paddle.

At the minimum you would have to turn the name over. Worst case senario is that you get your ass handed to you by one of his lawyers.

A quick check and it seems as if the name isn't trademarked (i Could be wrong) so what you do from here is your business.

I would urge you to check links like these which have documentation of cases like this and see if it is worth your time. Please note that the people that have held onto their domains have been using them in good faith. Parking the name for your profit doesn't really constitute "good Faith"
