I've recently been involved in a wanted thread that had a person wanting LLLL.com's. Now over 35,000 of the 450,000 possible domains have still not been registered. Some people are asking over $$500 and even up to 750 for some poor names. What are your thoughts?

I didn't wanna discuss in the thread so I stuck it here.. hope thats okay.

I think it all depends on how quickly the person is expecting a sell.

If I don't mind waiting 3 years for a sale then yeh I'm gonna ask for low $x,xxx for a pronouncable DN. However if I just wanna flip the names and make a quick buck then I would probably ask for much less, like low $xxx for a pronouncable LLLL.com.

The same goes for the crappy LLLL.coms, I would ask for probably a quarter as much though. Unless I see good acronym or letter play possibilities then it would be the same as a good pronouncable LLLL.com.

Why are you so worried about what other people's asking prices are?

Well for me that's simple.

Its easier and better for me to learn from other peoples mistakes rather make my own:)

I mean what kind of a post is that. I wanted to know if you thought they were overpriced.

I did. Now you can state your opinion too.

If someone wants to ask 17 trillion for xzfg.com, then let them. B-)

I think we all are guilty of what some would say was overpricing - I know I am  At the end of the day domain pricing is near impossible to get exact - there is no exact !

You can only "guestimate" by previous sales (that you know of) and hope the person doing the offering is going to be the ultimate end user that must have your name.

I have contacted quiet a few owners who have replied with "one million".

Will they get it - very doubtfull but you never know.

The highest reply which was a two word name I have had was
$ 5 million !!

Be Lucky :)

If you are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for an advertising campaign on your business (which is very common) than thousands of dollars for a domain name is often a good investment if it increases the response rate of your campaign. (e.g. If my business is VURG Incorporated and my advertising campaign is most effective with me using VURG.COM)

Therefore if a person wants to wait for the higher paying customer than that's their decision.

It's not uncommon for somebody to sell their domain for less than $500 to somebody who a short while later sells for thousands.
