I own several .US domains.

I live in the UK, however just chose that I am a permanent resident of us.

I'm sure it doesn't really matter. I know loads of non-US residents or citizen's that own .US domains.

According to the .us registry, you must be be one of the three US designations to register a .us name. As far as I know, I haven't heard anything about anyone verifying if registrants meet this requirement.

interesting -

I think you can buy anything as long as your going to pay.
never seen a case where it had to be given back - but never looked for one.

That issue certainly has been a gray one from my perspective. It seems that .us is more easiily purchased by non-residents than some of the other cc names that have restrictions. I have avoided the .ca cc because of this. Personally, I like having .us less restrictive, because it will be used more, the availibility of good names will decrease and the value of the tld will increase and be more universally acceptable and will be less limitied in terms of the global market. ie .fr is strong for local businesses in France, but more limited than co.uk or even .nu for the global marketplace.:talk:

Yes, but technically the registries can take those domains away from them. The key is that they never have...

Do you think registers should do this? Do you think theres a reason as to why they don't? It seems to me registers just don't match certain extensions to the address on their owners.

I own my .US extensions, and a few other domains under my UK address!

Well, I think there are financial reasons why they don't check up on these things, of course.

As far as UK addresses go for .us names, they never said you're business or mailing address needed to be in the US.
