seems like a reply to a previous thread but the thread was not mentioned.

The problem with this system is it assumes that most of the names are well into the X,XXX range. When you get further into the thousands, the values will most likely be to an end-users... and after all, end-users are the anomoly and cannot be judged.

Most names that are going to be regged and sold reseller to resseller these days are going to be sub $100, so there should be emphasis placed on <$100, not 500,000 where any end-user sale up there cannot be judged, as it just happened to be the perfect name for the perfect [large, powerful, rich, over-paying] company

Please don't take this the wrong way, but why set up a key system when all you have to do is type in a few numbers in the first place? I could see a key as useful if it saved people from writing lengthy amounts, but I don't think it is that difficult to just type $100 - 200 reseller, $400 - 500 end user. I mean that is only seven words, and what is your system, four letters? Not much of a time saver IMO. Thanks for sharing though!

This appraisal system might come in handy if you have to appraise a large portfolio on the individual domain name basis, lets say a couple of hundred names have to be appraised at a range of possible low to high figures both at the reseller and end user prices.

Domain1 : $3000 to $3500 reseller and $7500 to $10000 end user
Domain2 : ………………………………………………………………………………….
Domain3 : ………………………………………………………………………………….

Could be simplified as:

Domain1 : j-k / O-P
Domain2 : ……….
Domain3 : ……….

The idea is to have a simpler and more uniform method for appraisals. If domainers do some brain storming perhaps they could come up with a better method.

The range of names that take up the bulk of your pricing table are deep into the X,XXX where gauging names becomes increasingly difficult though.

That is a separate issue as far as certain appraisals being difficult to make, but once an appraisal is made it might be easier to convey the results by using the Oldtimer’s appraisal method which is designed to have maximum range.
