I had a sleep study done, and they have diagnosed me with "Obstructive sleep apnea"

They are saying i have two options, either sleep with a CPAP mask every night, or, have surgery. I am heavily leaning toward the surgery.

I am glad they found the cause of the foggy state of mind during the day hours, the doctor said i got two hours and 45 minutes of sleep, during the eight hour study, and he said that was off and on.

Does any one else have sleep apnea here?

Make sure you completely understand the possible side effects of the surgery. My cousin had what I presume to be the same procedure and it left him with frequent choking issues when he swallows. To the point of wishing he had not had the surgery.

Obviously, your situation may be different.

I have it.. and think you'd be better off seeing how well you like the CPAP mask first. Surgery should always be a last option.

Some people with sleep apnea wake up as much as 300 times a night.

I have sleep apnea! :td:

I did a sleep study several months ago after I was very tired, falling asleep during the day, and was just feeling crappy all day long. I could never sleep, and was miserable.

I did a lot of reading about sleep apnea. Sleep apnea causes so many problems in the human body.

I'm not grossly overweight, but I could stand to lose thirty pounds. This has contributed to my sleep apnea, as well as the fact that I have a little smaller than normal opening in my throat. Weight has a lot to do with sleep apnea, but my "sleep doctor" said he has had marathon runners come into his office with sleep apnea.

I was super embarrassed to have to go in and get a CPAP. I mean, come on - having to sleep with some stupid mask? It's the BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE. The CPAP is a GODSEND. Oh my goodness it has changed my life. I can sleep - my wife is happy because she can sleep soundly, and I feel better than ever, because I actually HAVE energy now!

You're going to love it. Get the CPAP! :tu:

You don't necessarily have to be overweight.. I'm a bit overweight but have always had a thick neck too so that doesn't help. Plus having the proper pillow for support can help too.

What you eplain above, Is exactly the way i have felt for a good while. Exhausted, not matter how much sleep i get.

I guess my weight could be a factor, I have lost 33lbs and am down to 202lbs now, but through out the weight loss, and the weight loss has done by cutting out sweets, meal portions mainly, and has been lost over an 8 month period. I haven't noticed any difference in the fatigue, foggy brain through out the day, my wife says i snore heavy, and grasp for air.

I got something I think - I will wake up alot, I don't have rememberance of it, but I've been told I do... ALOT. I haven't done a sleep study yet - all the ones I want charge alot of money, so I stick with buying caffeine pills for now, until I can find a free study.

But like other people said, surgery should be the last choice, I mean, it could make matters worse.

Luckly i have health insurance, I can't do caffeine, I mean none at all, It makes me real shaky and nervous.

I would think putting a lot of stimulation to your brain during the day, with all that caffeine, could cause you to awake during the night.

Actually, for me, as big as I am (6'5, 350+lbs), the caffeine doesn't do too much for me - I get the shakes for a few minutes, and some times get slightly irritable, but other than that, it wakes me up and makes me focused.

I wake up a lot of times during the night....but just to check my website/traffic/parking starts!! :)

Just kidding, (have no parked domains at all) that is a serious condition John and i believe a lot of people have it without even know it....for my part, a couple beers everynight helps me, but that's just me...:) (as a german, grewing up with beer we get used to it) :)

Good luck with the cure!!

Cheers

Frank

Thanks Frank :) I hope the treatment and or surgery, makes me much better.

The thing i refuse to do, join any type of forum or group that has do with the problem, I do not want to focus on sleep apnea. I just want to take treatment and move forward, It is just another step in life, as far as i am concerned, I refuse to let it become a total disability, I have heard that can happen. So i figure, the best thing for me, get the treatment and keep on truckin :tu:

lol..I am Aaron by the way :)

even my mum had some heart problems, and she did not wanna do surgery. So we prayed for miracle healing, and prayed and prayed, and she got healed. Even the doctor was surprised.

I'll get the treatment verdict tomorrow at 4:30PM

as a tummy sleeper, I think the mask might be a nightmare, but from what i have heard, the surgery takes a very good while to heal from, and complications can arise.
