This nails it. I know that .us is the appropriate ccTLD, but the "in" almost kills it completely, and the .us finishes it off (com is developed). And of course... you will need to renew for four years to see if there is any interest at all, and during that time you will get traffic bleed to .com. Here are some stats from the big g:

obama in 2012: 0 (not enough data to measure)
Search volume for either phrase sucks... but of course will improve as 2012 approaches, but it is going to be a long 4 year wait with probably zero traffic without some development miracle.

also terrible stats, but it will pick up. Apparently "obama in 2012" appears a bit more often on pages, but is not searched as often.
