someone sold nq.com for $27k today:
http://www.afternic.com/name.php?id=856372

Jumped from $9.5k to $27k in one day? Sounds arranged.

But this makes the third highest sale on (the new) Afternic.

While the nominal price of a domain in a given currency might change, the underlying value of the domain remains relatively constant, reflecting changes in the currency’s value rather than the domain itself.

Discuss...

It's mostly true for cars and food and stuff, but (good) domain prices rise faster than inflation.

It was only half serious, but inflation should be considered as well ;)

Yeah we have done a few of these before calling them blasts from the past, it's funny to look back on domain commentary when we all were young.

@equity78 Do you agree with me that this 2-letter .com sold way too cheap?

Look I remember back in the day, there was a name here listed at $20K an LL and people thought it was crazy. It's like how LLL.com were $800 and now today easy $15k to $20K. And where you are on the budget scale is what you are drawn too.

LL.com were $20K in 2004/2005 so people with less cash like LLL.com for $800 to $1,500 people who could not afford $1,500 were attracted to 4L.com

@aww hasn't been seen since 2016 so hopefully he'll now come back.

I don't recall LLLL .com sales being hot 20 years ago. It was LLL .com mostly, especially since that WWF(.com) $8 grab at the drop in late 2002. Those who traded two letter .com domains were already asking for $50k a pop, looking to quadruple their money.

What a great blast from the past. 20 years ago what seemed like expensive is dirt cheap today.
Hi

i remember back then, a whole list of them being for sale in $10K > $20K range.
while at same time LLL.com were selling for $$$ and you could hand reg LLLL/NNNN.com

think i paid around $800 for my first LLL.com :)

imo...

Same here, you never forget your first XEF.com $800 on the original Afternic.

I agree Theo 4L.com were not it was I think what those who could not afford LLL.com gravitated too, the famous Reece thread on LLLL.com opened the floodgates.

It's sad to say I checked NQ .com and it doesn't resolve.

It was probably a reseller that bought it since it went so cheap. A 1 million USD domain to end-user for sure.

And in 20 years from now will we come full circle and the name at 27k will once again seem expensive? I gave up trying to predict anything.

Hi

the amount paid for it 20 years ago, was not considered cheap.
that was the range that they were trading for.

you had to be there, in that time, to understand.
there was no iphone, no crypto and NP was just 1 year old.

not many domainers were thinking 20 years in the future.
buy and resell, was the daily routine.

imo...
